as a musician, this is interesting. my mindset is always on how to work with ai as a tool. so far I've seen people use this as something fun to mess around with. I actually bought someone a copy of fl studio for a friend because she was loving suno but didn't have the control. companies & the status queue may crumble, but just like a specialty store. human made stuff will have a value of premium. just like hand made bakeries, there will always be a crowd looking for human connection when it comes to the arts. it can mimic & learn perfectly, but the individual experience can never be replicated. the love, the intimacy & even the pain. it's a unique experience that we each have. we just need to adapt responsibly, but I doubt it will happen smoothly. too many reckless individuals feeding a dragon that will ultimately grow to devour even them.

I have a feeling that background music, filler music etc will be AI driven or at least made with help from AI. Trailers, youtube/twitch content creators, intros... maybe even some indie games might use 100% or mostly AI music (music is so important part of the game that i don't think big studios would go ai-music-only route. But a smaller creator that can't afford hiring artist might use ai generated music). Oh and small animation/live actions movies&series productions too. But actual artists kinda need personality and an actual person to both sing and promote the music. Sure there might be an act or few that could pull off some hologram on stage kinda thing but i feel like majority of concert ticket buyers are wanting to see human on stage. And many times the arists at least help with writing the lyrics (even if they aren't credited at least on various interviews they often claim that they gave the ideas and details to songwriters so that they can personalize the songs for the artist - this might not always be the case and am not sure if this varies from country to country or from studio to studio - maybe its up to producer? but i've heard even pop-stars say something along those lines so many times that i tend to believe they had at least something to do with the songs they are singing) - AI might help with the melodies and rhythms but i feel like lyrics will at least be touched by human and most songs on radios and big screen movies (that want to sell soundtracks or use those as extra promition for movie) will use real life people. We shall see in few years how right or wrong our guesses/estimates are.

Depends on the application and type of AI. A lot of stuff that is happening in AI is in science; even generative AI has some fascinating and promising scientific uses that could move society forward (e.g. drug discovery). I agree that training generative AI on people's work without consent and then selling it is wrong. Some (probably a lot) of the people running those companies either don't really seem to care about the impact of their technology on society or are so out of touch with reality that they disregard all critical voices on the grounds of the advancement of technology for a perceived greater good.

@@pniehusde I appreciate you replying in good faith. I’m much less concerned about the scientific applications tbh. To me that is different from the content creation stuff. That being said I think all the people developing this stuff are trying to be the next google. They want to accumulate as much power as possible and they don’t care about the consequences or the collateral damage. The highest priority seems to be getting ahead at all costs while governments are still trying to wrap their heads around what’s happening. The benefit to humanity is secondary.

there are ppl going around in Game Dev reddit channels posting their links to discord saying their are music producer for years, then you find out they just using suno... this is creating NFT bro's but for music production.. this is a really really bad thing. Suno and Udio need to be shut down for good, they are 100 percent using copyright material. lots of ppl have proved this.

My stance on it is this : Ai content should be allowed to have a huge selection of voulenteered products to build their learning algorithms on, and even when all is said and done there should be regulation, such as a project using AI is legally required to have human touches or effects on to legalize it to prevent millions of astranged and inhumane uses of programs being distributed.

As someone who loves composing, i always thought suno was a cool party trick, something i could show my grandad a couple of times, and then not really use again. I didn't realisse it had thisbhuge funding 😬

AI progresses incredibly fast, there are some Suno made songs that now have over 1 Million plays/ listens, a milestone which many artists would love to have on their Spotify. Suno Version 3.5 just released last week too, and it's better than ever. V4 also brings out .wav format for better audio quality, it just keeps on getting better

those companies that venture capital backed aren't necessarily a sure sign of confidence that SUNO has a future - Lightspeed backed Epic multiple years AFTER Fortnite's BR mode exploded, and we all know how much of a scammer and criminal's paradise crypto and NFTs are.

This stuff is pretty horrifying. There have been multiple cases of suno and udio identically replicating songs from smaller artists when given the same keywords. If i was a musician, i dont think i would ever want to incorporate this into my works, as i'd be ripping off other artists, and i would be cheating myself around the whole, composition and recording process. I like to calm myself down by reminding myself of ai art, which has taken off in the corporate world for obvious reasons, but the indie space seems pretty safe. TLDR: Generative ai is a big pile of horse manuer and i dont think it should be considered a viable alternative to real human art. Anyways, good video. It covers the situation pretty comprehensibly.

Suno is GREAT for content creators because you can use music for videos that fits your needs and has no copyright.. these companies gst enough revenue as it is. I think this is great and should be labeled derrivative work

This is 1 use case I actually do agree with, UMG strike everything under the god damn sun for content creators, they've striked my videos before and I had to fight it because they didn't even own the music they tried to strike!

tbh suno would be very helpfull for indie game studios bc it will allow the small studios to make some good dam music for their songs at a less expensive price and less quality than a fully fledged human artist so i think suno is fair enough

I run an indie studio, and we get asked monthly (no joke) by new composers/ music producers if they can join our project completely free of charge. Music as an indie studio is actually very affordable, compared to things like wanting a 3D modeller or texture artist

@@Nadestraight it also has an extremely low barrier to entry for newcomers and is best learned by tinkering, just like visual art - there are multiple free or affordable and well-loved plugins, samples and tools, countless freely accessible tutorials, an endless amount of MIDIs to study, and FL Studio in particular has extremely useful tools like scale highlighting and snapping to help keep you on target. you can become a very skilled and expressive composer without ever taking a music theory class

Good point. Also useful for other media such as indie animation studios or maybe even indie movies (short or full lenght). Ofc some scenes need to have the right type of music (right intensity, setting up the mood etc) - but these studios already use creative commons music packs and aren't always able to get composer or rights to better songs. AI can't hurt these people since it gives more options. And it isn't taking anyones job either in most of the cases since (at least now) the people who would be using AI for this are the ones that can't afford to hire composer or buy license. (Also content creators like youtubers and twitch streamers now have ways to have more variable background, intro, ending and brb songs if they want to - and it should be dmca free unless the ai happens to generate a song that sounds too much of some original work - i feel like if i were to go this route i'd generate songs myself, give a listen to make sure they sound original enough and only then put them on playlist as bg songs - am not sure if i'd use someone elses playlist, especially the ones from their site cuz i can't be sure what they sound like).
