Will The CHEAPEST McLaren In The Country Make It 1,400 MILES Home?

I bought a McLaren sight unseen and that right there is enough for you to know it was a crazy deal. No PPI, I never saw the car, just "Clean CarFax, Clean AutoCheck, Clean Title" so I sent the money right then. I bought this 2012 McLaren MP4-12C for just $76,000 in Anaheim, California and we're driving it 1,400 miles home... the first day was the flashing check engine light and misfires, today things get much worse.

The entire end of this trip I was sitting there like "shut the car off to refuel and risk it not starting?" or "leave the car running and risk it catching on fire as exotics do?" Refueled twice with it running, didn't burn the car down, nice. 🔥

McLaren oil level check procedure: put your foot on the brake and rev the engine for 40 seconds. If it locks up or explodes, you didn't have enough oil.

This is going to be a great series to watch. The Gallardo would’ve been good for one or two expensive repair videos, but this MP412C will give you 10-12 wildly expensive repair videos as the Mclaren dealer has their way with you since everything’s locked down and proprietary. These things can hit $40,000-$50,000 in repairs pretty rapidly which is why Hoovie said nooooooo. Subbed and look forward to the excitement! 👍👍

@@jmaxim80 the only way to look at this. Every time one of my friends argues with me about buying a Mclaren over a Lamborghini they find out the hard way. Literally my friend was towing his 570s around today trying to find someone who can work on the transmission. They all get warned and then get excited about the doors going up and the low price and then get railed out financially. The first rule about Mclarens is to never buy one without a warranty. Period. But now we get to watch this story unfold and Hoovie to say I told you so.

@@ocmotivator Exactly. The way to look at these exotics is that they are playthings for the original owner who is insensitive to driving costs, inconvenience, and depreciation. The cars are engineered accordingly. Second or third owner, strap in and bring your checkbook.

Actually, that Porsche of Hoovie's is a better runner than this McLaren... and fairly more reliable than this car. Sure, its "glittery", but it can be fixed... liked his '80s Targa Porsche, that patina look rocks!

Nice car, great buy. There is lots of rubbish talked about repairs and costs. I would suggest you browse Ben on the Vtuned site. He bought a wrecked one and rebuilt it to a stunning vehicle and exposed where to buy and the various things he found out on the way.

Had I known you were going through Phoenix I would've recommended a much better Mexican joint for you. I'll be pulling the same drive but with a moving truck dragging my 63' Austin Healey Sprite MKII.5 Sprite. I'd be interested in your route, aside from I40 as I'm moving my family into Goddard in about 3 weeks.

Hearing you talk about the driving noise and audio in the car, makes me feel a lot better about my 3rd gen viper. I thought that was the big compromise of those cars, awful NVH but it sounds like it's not that much worse compared to a big time primo car. I had to use it for a work trip once because I had my other cars taken apart and couldn't get a rental at the time. It may not be legal but Bluetooth ear buds helped a lot. I was super nervous about the listening fatigue.

I lived in Phoenix for 10 years. Filiberto’s is absolutely garbage. You need to go in the hole in the wall ones . One in Ahwatukee called pap chevos I would go there almost daily. They have the best carne asada fry’s hands down.

I might end up eating these words but I think you found a real gem with that McLaren. Someone loved that car for its entire life and put just enough miles on it to not let it deteriorate. I have a feeling the interior was damaged recently and not by the previous owner; which might clean up better than expected.

Could it be wrong oil ie wrong viscosity so not coating parts correctly.....also obviously dont own a McLaren but when my car did that nonsense of showing all lights on the dash the alternator was starting to give up and eventually after about 3 weeks it died and had completely burnt out car was taking a little longer to start but started every time
