China has said many times that it does not want to replace the USD with the Yuan, it only wishes to avoid using the USD in global trade.

@@danielli9167 sanction? why does China need to care about the USA sanctions? the USA cannot sanction Russia. All its tools did not work with Russia oil. Beside the USA is only 300 million population market with heaps of unfair trade, sanctions, embargoes, stealing money through assets freezing, lots of competitors etc while China can get more freedom in 6.7 billion market outside of the USA allies?

China and Russia will come up with a new model…where one doesnt need to have a reserve currency and dont need to open up the currency and yet…still trade in huge volumes using RMB. And get the benefits of all three corners of the triangle. China is innovative enoigh. Add oil.

@@TeacherLisaHello According to the Peterson institute on its study on the spread of USD reserve across all continents in the world done in Dec 2023. It found that 1. Asia held USD 5 Trillion of USD reserve with China held USD 3.2 Trillion. Among that USD 3.2 Trillion, USD 700 billion was in US bonds form. Japan came 2nd with USD 1.2 trillion and all of it was in US bonds form. 2. Europe only held USD 1 Trillion. 3. Middle east held USD 800 billion 4. Latin America only held USD 600 billion 5. Africa held USD 85 billion. According to the IMF, there was 12 trillion of USD reserve worldwide in 2022. If Europeans as the USA best friends only held USD 1 Trillion of the USD reserve, why does the world need to keep more? What Peterson worried was if Asia dumped 25% of their USD reserve to something else like Yen, Yuan, Euro etc. If that happens, the USA will collapse overnight. China is only copying Soros when he attacked the UK and Asia where Soros only death with cash. China now has more cash than the USA bonds that are less liquid. If China wants, it can drop all USD reserve overnight. The question is why does the world need to keep USD if the US can freeze your country's assets in the USD reserve overnight?

The funny thing is…as EU and USA blocks further direct investment from China and raises the cost and risk of China investing in the EU or USa, it makes it more attractive for China to go to the rest of the world for lower returns, which in the end makes IMF and the World Bank less attractive and further eroding USa’s grip…

@@MSDGroup-ez6zk As long as these bonds dumped by the Chinese find a buyer, U.S. should be ok, but it's very difficult to find buyer for these T-bonds. the prices will then go down and yield will go sky rocketed.

Somehow I digress. Whether Yuan will replace the dollar or not depends on sanction. If US decided to sanction too many country for not listening to it then dedollarization will hasten. But that does not mean USD will be replaced immediately just that US and USD will collapse under the weight of their debt. It has nothing to do with China. Once the dedollarization reached critical mass, the collapse is sudden. No countries wants to be the bag holder. If you need an example just look at how crypto currency implode. Human behavior and response during crisis will be the same if it is USD or crypto. China doesn't want Yuan to be a reserve currency but they don't have a choice since this is decided by its trading partners. China's use of CBDC will have an important role to play.

One country is dominating world trade earning some USD 600-800 billion dollars yearly but keeping quiet on their foreign exchange reserves and acquiring physical gold and keeping a low profile. On the other hand another country claim to own the world's largest gold reserves and goes on a spending binge by printing endless amount of money. You can be an idiot to know that the world reserved currency will be used by others driven by the market in the world trade and a currency belonging to a rich country with huge savings, foreign exchange reserves and physical gold holdings. No brainer.

The Yuan will not replace the US dollar because China does not want to eliminate the control over the capital account. They have so far shown no hint of eliminating the control over capital account. As the US dollar decline in importance, the world may have a large number of international fund transfer mechanisms. It may be chaotic.

Why does there have to be a dominant reserve currency? Why cannot trade be multi-currency with countries trading with each other in a currency of their choosing. They can choose to trade in US$ or Chinese Yuan or gold or crypto or BRICS or Sterling or local? I believe that with the rise of modern AI computing this can be possible?

It doesn't need to replace but as long as we don't rely and use much of US dollars that would be enough for the world ... US economy problems should not be bored by the entire world all the time, US should stand own it's foot and take consequences and responsibilities for all its wrong doing ...

It's unlikely unless China harbors ambitions for global conquest. While America may pursue such expansive goals, China seems more focused on maintaining its sovereignty and being allowed to pursue its own path without external interference.

The dollar I think will be used in America for the near future. After that is up to America. I think the most important thing to have is a currency that is resistant to inflation. Savings should be savings and not eaten by inflation. We shouldn’t have to gamble in the market to preserve savings. And anything else you put your money in (like gold) they tax your gains when all it’s really doing is keeping up with inflation. Fiat and government controlled currencies should not be legal

Now that they US won't sell them semiconductor, what is there to import from them? That's why even with a fixed exchange rate, China has largely avoided inflation. Think about how rare it is to find made in USA goods in the US and how much more so that is in China.

China is winning the play in US own game, so why would China want to change directions? If China can thrive with the US dollar as the global reserve currency, it makes sense for them to stay the course. However, there is one aspect that China may want to change, the banking system. Given the US's use of Swift and the banking system as weapons, it would be wise for China to possess a similar tool. In the past, countries such as Japan, the UK, South Korea, and even China used their excess USD to invest in the US. They purchased bonds, treasuries, stocks, and other assets, but ultimately the money came back and stayed in the US. But it seems like China doesn't want to keep doing that. It would be better for China to create their own banking system using US dollars, kinda like a second Federal Reserve (FED). This way, they could treat the surplus of US dollars they receive from trade as if it were new money created by the FED. With this power, China could lend money to other countries at lower interest rates and potentially become the world's main bank. If they wanted, they could even cause inflation by releasing lots of US dollars into the market, and when they take those dollars back, they could make the US economy suffer through a recession.

The USD is easy but becoming unsafe and unpredictable.SEAN trade is circa $4T and looking to shift to BRICS to allow for supporting its own local currency. Without understanding the BRICS reasoning and dynamics you fail to comment honestly on the dollar. The dollar and its system has been weaponised on innumerable fronts and ultimately there is recoil.

Just say, most countries avoiding USD because it can be weaponised except Argentina. Definitely Argentina will gladly buy USD while other countries are offloading USD from western back😮banks for fear of sanctions and seizures.

It was done 100% in US dollars.

Yuan is not available outside of China. Sorry, but China has already said they not looking to replace the US dollar as the world reserve currency. Any nation that that uses the Yuan them most only use it with China. China does not allow other nations to use their currency with another nation that not China.

@@makuohua3071 So need to understand that this what we call propaganda. The Chinese Yuan is not allowed to used outside of China. Even Hong Kong only use about 1% of the Chinese Yuan. The Hong Kong dollar is still pegged to US dollar.

However, I do know from listening to Russians, Indians, and Chinese that they have no ambition to de-throne the US dollar as Reserve Currency of World. What they want to do is strengthen their own currency well China and India want strengthen their currency. I don't think Vladimir Putin of Russia really knows what he doing.

It was the 13th C Yuan dynasty that created the first paper currency for use in China. They overprinted to finance an invasion of Japan. The rest is history.
