Today I'm joined by Marc Frankel of Long Island Watch for a new #watchtalk episode all about the Islander Rangemaster, your thoughts on our recent collaboration, and comments we received after its launch. I was lucky enough to grab the rangemaster from Long Island Watch the day it launched. It really is great value and a unique piece to own. I have several Islanders in the collection and will continue to be a customer for the foreseeable future. I recently made a Black Friday purchased and when I received it there was an issue with the crystal. I contacted Marc and with no hesitation he sent me a replacement in the mail. It actually was an upgrade from the watch I ordered since it was no longer in stock. The few times I’ve needed to contact him in the past I have got a response within minutes and solution to my problem. I will say Long Island watch is the best customer service I’ve ever recieved for a purchase from anywhere. Watching TGV and Islander watch videos brought me back into the wonderful hobby of watches after a long hiatus. Keep up the great work TGV and Islander! I think a GMT with the new Seiko or Miyota movement limited to 200 would be a hit. Could be a Pepsi, but with the Polar dial. Red GMT hand and the red on the Pepsi for TGV, blue is Marc’s favorite color, the polar dial would separate it from the GMT master. Perfection!

I think a polar dial is a great idea! It would play to the Explorer theme very well. You could also incorporate pieces of the BB Pro to not make it a complete homage. I was SO Close to buying the Rangemaster. The only thing that stopped me is the fact that I’m waiting for an Explorer and I couldn’t justify having two watches that look so similar.

My father would tell us “He who hesitates - is lost.” After watching your announcement video, I did wait to order the watch until I had finished watching Marc’s video and ended up with 315/500. I initially thought the watch was a little small for me, but after wearing it for several weeks, I am thinking that most of my other watches are too big. In the ‘80s and ‘90s, I never thought of my 33, 36 & 38mm watches as being too small.

I got the Islander Manhasset a few months ago. It was my daily and is a fantastic watch. I now just had delivered the Rangemaster today. I love it. Both watches are similar but on closer inspection very different. I have 5 Islanders now. The brand is getting better and better. Cheers Marc

I finally have my Rangemaster now number: 269 🎉 A close family friend has two daughters with autism as well as her husband, so it really means alot to see that part of the proceeds are going towards helping others with special needs in a community of watch geeks/nerds ❤ I also come from a military background, and it is heartwarming to see 50% going towards Wounded Warriors. I was lucky enough to get the Rangemaster. Love it !!! As far as suggestions for the next iteration, I would say go a bit larger. I would like it better at 40mm. Also a polar dial would be good - but make sure the hands and hour markers contrast well - BLACK not silver. Sort of like the Explorer II (not GMT though - a useless complication as far as I'm concerned). In any case, good job with the current one!

If you do decide to go with a white dial for the Rangemaster 2, you could do a snowlike texture, a là the white dial Grand Seiko. But perhaps with an effect like drifting snow.

I would love the same attack focused on a classy 60s style diver. There’s so much love for Squale, old Tudor and Rolex, and so on. Taking inspiration from all of those into a unique piece with no crown guards, good bezel and dial placement with Marc’s awesome bracelets and logo would be beautiful.

For your next collaboration maybe polar dial, 38 mm case, lug to lug no bigger than 46 mm, pop of color on a seconds hand, strong BGW9 lume, jubilee style bracelet with on the fly micro adjustment clasp. As for the watch style something sporty that can be dressed up, like Aqua Terra, maybe a GMT but or vintage diver. Yeah, give us a heads up so we people from Europe can stay awake for the launch. Re the logo: I like it. On my Rangemaster (I was one of the fortunate five hundred who immediately jumped into the pool) the logo reminds me of a power meter. As to a polar dial Rangemaster II, I say GO FOR IT! Great vid. Keep at it!

I was one that expressed my disappointment on Marc's Instagram page. As a huge fan of both contributors it irked me that I didn't have the chance to purchase one. The one day I wasn't tuned in like I normally am... this slipped past me. If there is a Rangemaster II, I will hopefully have better luck. I'd prefer it to be at least 40mm, for what that's worth. Thanks to you two I'm a recently baptized watch enthusiast. Within the past month I've bought a Bulova Presicionist (way cool), an Eco Drive, a Casio Twin Sensor, and Casio Illuminator. Like many of these referenced reviewers, I too just love your whole 38mm package: the thinness, the SS finish, the hands, the markers, the spaced minute track, the lume, the 24hr chapter ring, the wide bezel, the chunky crown, the solid bracelet & the clasp too; I mean, what more can be said! Now that the economy seems improved I do hope your discussed Rangemaster 2 or a "Polar" wont change those referenced essentials. The two logos and their placement seem appropriate to me & the font chosen is classy. With the logo at 12, might the additional "Islander" text at 6 be redundant? When a re-release does become a reality and if it's cost-effective for you guys, having drilled lugs on the Polar would be very welcomed.

Can't wait to see the second version. Maybe a 40mm polar dial. And appreciated the note at the end about the extra notice. Totally understand having the timing suited to the main market, but give us the notice to get up at 2am to make the purchase, and go back to sleep. Seeing the multiple reviews get released after it had already sold out was pretty upsetting. So even just a 24hr ahead to notify people would make a world of difference.

Great to see you two together again! I must say that every time I put my RangeMaster on it makes me thoroughly and truly happy. It is one of my favorite watches now. It is supremely comfortable and so fantastically well done. It is just a purely unique and enjoyable piece. I completely agree that you guys should collaborate on another piece! I recently realized what I really like about many watch cases, the Islander Rangemaster included and what I don´t like about most Tudors for example: An elegant not too chunky side profile with a nice chamfer in the lower part. The uninterrupted high and flat side of a Tudor Black Bay turns me off even though that chunky design makes somewhat sense in the context of a diver. So again, great job combining elegance with sturdiness in the Rangemaster and I´m hoping for more to come .

You should definitely do another collaboration. But do a different watch. Maybe something with a vintage vibe? Or maybe a watch with a nature theme that takes cues from "a certain alpine watch from Japan". You could choose an environmental charity to give to as well.

Here's a suggestion to the guys: If you're going to go different, go with a Field Watch! I know Islander does those. May I suggest a deep green (Brittish Racing Green) dial with orange hands perhaps? The case could be a brushed metal and the applied indices could also be brushed metal with the islander logo and the Urban Gentry Lion to follow suit. Wowzers!!!!!!! Pre-order now fellas!!!!

Congrats to the both of you! I'm glad this release was a success. I passed up on it this time, but I would definitely be interested in seeing what comes next. If I had to submit a wish list of my own, I would say that I would *not* want a white dial, but perhaps a glossy black one. I would love to see it in 36mm and a case with slightly longer lugs so it's less stubby (I problem I've always had with the SARB033 and pretty much all Omegas). I would also like to see a few polished surfaces on the case. I quite like the dial design and handset, and despite them being clearly inspired by other watches, I think it's a refreshingly unique and cohesive interpretation. PS. If you do go for a white dial, I would highly suggest looking into a pure white lume, or one with a slight yellow tint - I personally find the greenish hue of most lume (including that on the Rangemaster) clashes terribly with a white dial.

I think the Island Watch logo works on this style of watch b/c it looks like a compass. It gives a spirit of adventure!

I'm wearing my Rangemaster while watching this video and smiling. I had to purchase mine through a private seller on eBay and paid a little more but I didn't mind. Next time I'll pay a little more attention! For the next one (can't wait!), how about a design that pays homage to a very underrated watch (IMO), the Omega Railmaster. And maybe use Seiko for the movement. Last but not least, as a retired veteran ... thank you for donating to Wounded Warriors!
