If the Chinese is allowed to fly surveillance air balloons over military bases, I should be allowed to fly a dji over a state beach.

This shit happened in the 80's with Japanese motorcycles. The Japanese were making better, more dependable and more affordable bikes than Harley was, so Harley went and got strict regulations put on Japanese bikes. That's something America has gotten good at, banning stuff.

They were import tariffs. And American companies lobbying politicians for tariffs on imported competitors products is a socially acceptable daily occurrence. That used to be something worth worrying about. Now foreign companies lobby OUR government to pass legislation allowing them to do things like sell dangerous and counterfeit products, buy American land and water rights, have foreign run experimental medical laboratories in our cities and such. Our government taxing Japanese motorcycles over 700cc for a few years is like crying about the milk your grandpa spilled in the spring of 88’ while watching your daughter’s only fans. 😂

Alright but which American competitor to DJI is doing it then? That makes far more sense when you are working from the dominant position. DJI is the dominant drone company, they have the most money in the space and could lobby and/or bribe far more effectively.
@kurtzFPV
@kurtzFPV 5 ай бұрын
@@somebodyspecific2410 I"m not sure which company or companies. They don't have to be US companies or even a consumer drone company. Just a company not in China. It could even be a defense contractor not yet in the market. Since DJI makes commercial drones as well, any company trying to restrict their sale wouldn't necessarily have to produce consumer drones. They might want the restriction to compete in the commercial space and the loss of the consumer side might just be collateral damage. As for DJI being in the dominant position-I'm sure DJI would hate to lose the business, but they may not be willing to spend the dollars in lobbying necessary to keep it. Maybe they figure they could just continue selling to everyone else in the world besides the US.

The issue is that we are beta testers for the CCP via dual use technology. They see what does and doesn’t work and then apply it to their military drone industry to be weaponized and used against the West when the CCP does decide they are ready to invade Taiwan, the Philippines, Australia, Vietnam, India, or wherever else their greed takes them. Remember, China plays the long game. We’re funding the potential future casualties of our own nations by helping the PLA perfect their military drones and comms programs. Josh’s view is a very narrow world view and ignorant of current realities and threats against the West and democracy. China isn’t our friend. Is DJI really preventing the use of their drones as weapon and surveillance platforms by Russia and Ukraine? Or are they just looking the other way while they scoop up data to perfect the PLA drone programs for future use against our sons and daughters? I say it’s the latter. They can stop me from flying where I want here in the US but not in Ukraine? Nah, I don’t think so.

Claims about inability of American manufacturing are bogus. It takes investment and a good investment environment to get these things going. Tesla had zero years of experience vs 100+ years of auto manufacturers, the big mfg are now trying to catch up to Tesla. The issue with American drones being subpar is that the sector is grossly underinvested, the Chinese state funds pumped billions into drone and related firms in China, many are given special dispensation to hire foreign talent, and benefited from other aspects of state industrial policy, as well as foreign investment. Japan, for example, more than technically and industrially capable of making consumer and enterprise level drones but hasn't seen a rise of such because much of industrial policy and investment were inclined to building foreign mfg capacity because it was seen as offering better returns. You had more foreign investment in Chinese firms related to drone mfg by Western f& Japanese investment funds than Western & Japanese investment funds into the West & Japan. The Countering Drones act, btw, merely only does in some small order what the Chinese have as established law. In China ALL foreign drones (not country specific) which collect or use any gnss/gis data are banned.

I disagree with JB on this. Every American or European buying a DJI drone is paying to develop China's drone technology which may one day be used against us, given that China is a strategic competitor that the US in particular is trying to build alliances against in case of a war. Anything that funds China is supporting them sending weapons to Russia to attack Ukraine, to influence the politics of Canada and so on. And who knows what information they could ultimately try to collect with these things. It's really difficult when they make cool consumer gear that is better than everything else out there. A ban on imports of DJI gear (or even higher import tariffs) might give US companies like Skydio more of an opportunity to grow in the US market and compete against each other without being immediately undercut by the incumbent juggernaut.

You might have a point if we also required apple to bring all their factories back to the US. Or forced Wal-Mart to quit buying from China. The money spent to buy DJI drones is a drop in the bucket toward spending to influence Canada or attack Ukraine compared to other manufacturing profits they make from goods made in China by our own "American" corporations. This would only make sense if we required all manufacturing to return to the US, and then everyone would need to be prepared to pay the heavy price of the cost of living that would make the rise in prices of the last several years look like nothing.

He wasn’t strong with them, he was weak and didn’t stand up to them. The US economy was tanking, society was being divided, there were riots, trade relationships were being ruined, he was threatening to pull out of NATO, they had political influence…all things that these dictators wanted! The US economy and jobs are both up over DT’s term. US has some of, if not the lowest gas prices in the world. Money does not go to Ukraine. Ukraine is given old equipment and the money goes into the US economy to produce new and better replacement equipment…helping the US economy. I can even see this from up in Canada…what’s your excuse?

In addition to the other comments, might want to check the years that Remote ID was codified into the FAA reauthorization act, and the year that DJI was first added to a “ban list” aka the (Bad) Entity List. Hint: it didn’t happen in the last 3.2 years.

My friend repaired dji drones and other devices. They reason they want it banned is because most ski produxts upload data to any avaiapbale wifi internet without any notice.
