Interesting video. You did some thorough research. I liked your deep-dive regarding the status of the chimney sweep in Germany back then. Regarding the Fallschirmjäger you missed the mark somewhat. The Luftwaffe prided itself as the NS branch of the army, being 'born' under the new regime. The Fallschirmjäger were thoroughly NS and this was part of their culture. Dr Hans-Martin Stimpel wrote extensively about it.

It was not paranoia, it was standard policy during wartime. People needed to be able to identify themselves. That’s how you weed out deserters and spies.

Interesting and informative excellent photography job making it easier for viewers to better understand what the orator was describing. Historians did a very good job presenting actual facts from fiction. Class A research project. Orator presented the documentary very well. Special thanks to low life Harold and his degenerate/sadist for making this documentary possible!!!

How could a member of the SS be also a member of the Luftwaffe in the same time ? Can you explain that to me ? Can you also explain to me how the schwere Feldhaubitze 18, found it´s way into the Wehrmacht, if those things didn´t exist ?

I'm really enjoying this, pls make more. However, the moral stance taken by the narrator is unwarranted. This is a 19 year old who has been at war over a year - and that year includes 1945 - which is surely the craziest most extreme year in history. We have no idea of his mental state - indoctrinated as a kid, then losing a world war - and this was the worst phase of ww2 for the gernan army and for germany of course. It was the end of the world in germany in 1945. Did he commit atrocities? Yes clearly, but finding the root cause in personal biography, in the pre war period is digging past the immediate overwhelming determinant - the breaker of people that was ww2. note: not watched ep 3 yet

Ummm maybe watch the 1st video part 1 on this. You sound incredibly silly as his personality was ALREADY ruthless and violent all the way back to like 11....he was ALWAYS like that AND had already stolen valor from before....pretending he won medals etc.... You're being incredibly uneducated and uninformed here.....he wasn't some poor kid who was drafted. HE SIGNED UP.....the movie was almost ALL FALSE HISTORY....stop pretending he's some victim. He loved war and killing.

I commend you on your research and ability to "hold it together " while narrating this sickening story. I can understand some people, at this stage of the war, not checking out personnel. Yet, this is nothing but gross lack of order, military rules and ruthlessness.

That is true, I did not go into detail regarding the members of Herold‘s band because I wanted to keep the story as trim as possible. In the third part, I should have explained who he was when I mentioned him.

09:15 The Germans did have a 150mm howitzer in the form of the Infantry gun of the same calibre, but it was not much used by this stage of the war. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/15_cm_sIG_33 09:54 German pioneer troops are German combat engineers. The Germans invented the concept of engineers who could actually fight in combat as well as dig trenches, copied by the americans as combat engineers. 12:04 you can see how devastating the 20mm autocannon was when used against infantry in Saving Private Ryan, where the flak airbursts are also accurately shown. Those guns were devastating against light aircraft but also devastating against soft targets on a flat trajectory. 15:40 it's not unreasonable for other officers to assume that the German field police would not have thoroughly checked him out. Going AWOL in the Wehrmacht back then was very difficult, because of the wealth of information that a man carried on his uniform as well as on the vehicles, so it was easy to tell if someone was AWOL or not. He was lucky to be among many of Karl Student's grounded airborne troops, of which he was one originally, but that was why he did not look out of place in an airforce captain's uniform, like he would anywhere else on that front. In sort, German MPs were so "heavy" and there were so many ways to tell if a soldier was out of place or not, that it's reasonable with hindsight that by that stage of the war that other officers would be complacent, you also did not question the integrity of fellow officers. To that time, very often an officer's word was good enough, even to the enemy. Such antisocial people always do well among honest people like the Germans or even the Dutch. Why would someone pretend to be a captain. Why would Hitler lie to the people, none of it made sense to ordinary people, therefore antisocial people like that can take advantage easily. What makes me laugh is that the British caught him over stealing a loaf of bread, he'd already got away with it, but the British knew to investigate him thoroughly, and lucky that they did, or we would not even know about Herold's exploits. It's also interesting that the movie does not mention how enthusiastically Herold went after the 400 people on Thiel's "political" list with such aplomb and is the real war crime in that, rather the most egregious one, because it involved civilians who were soon to get reprieved by the end of the war, if not for Herold. The film is also incorrect to state that the allies executed him, whereas Herold was guillotined, which was the nazi or german death penalty. This was how they executed Sophie Scholl, I still wager that she was braver than him.
