brings back memories. I remember in the 1980s on some entertainment show saying that Johnny Carson shows were underground like in vaults to be protected. Then I believed we'd never see anything from those vaults from Johnny's show. So amazing to see them again now.

Wow, what I would not give to go back to these days. It was such a more relaxed time. Everybody got along, the country was united, patriotic. I had just graduated high school. And I'll always remember a few years before that, my early teens, feeling like I was a grown-up lol, because I finally got to stay up and watch Johnny Carson.

That’s a totally inaccurate and biased projection of your personal nostalgia onto history. You just like the idea of things being better then because it represents your youth. Every generation has felt this way.

There was a concert in Arizona in 1984 where Julio was performing, someone was walking through the aisle to the stage. The audience was chanting Johnny, Johnny as they thought it was Johnny Carson. It was Willie who went up and sang with Julio.
@OperaJH8 ай бұрын
Julio tells about that on one of his Carson appearances. He said he had spoofed the audience when he said he was going to sing To All the Girls with a special guest. He said the audience started screaming “Johnny! Johnny! Johnny!” As he tells it, the lights were dimmed on purpose and the spotlight went to the feet of the person waiting in the wings. As the audience roared with anticipation, it was revealed that it was actually Willie!!! Apparently m, they then roared with delight! Those were very good days…🎉

Indeed. He’s also very hard to sign with. Years ago I was talking with Emmy Lou Harris and asked her who was the hardest to sing with. And she’s sang with some great but challenging singers, like Graham Parsons, Townes and Willie, she said Wille was the most challenging. He has a jazz influenced phrasing sometimes and it hangs people up. You just don’t expect it from a red neck from a small town in Texas.
