Golf carts are really popular on job sites, replacing bicycles and POVs, largely for engineered safety reasons. A self-propelled cart that also doubled as a mobile power station could be highly valued on such sites, especially for contracts that need to get hot work permits for the site anyhow. It is a huge expense, as well as an ongoing safety and maintenance concern to get remote areas of a refinery wired.

maybe add motors and propellers to make it a drone so it can fly itself around. Then you start a project for airborne solar panel that can fly to the best location for solar collection. V2 or 3 can ‘swarm’ the panels to make it more fun to work on. You know you need a new challenge

I too have been looking for the right trailer. There are trailers that can be hitched to ATV's but I need a trailer with an electric Axle. My design involves a mobile Grid System with breakaway cables on a trailer that can be setup to be remotely triggered to be guided by rail away from the house in an emergency. I can also then tow this to my other properties when there is an outage. Now only if I could put an unbrella style solar panel setup around the equip to keep it cool when deployed....

Will, you should build a Version 6 using a Makita battery powered cart. 🙂 They are made for hauling around heavy wet concrete all day for contractors. Makes it much easier and less awkward to move around. They have brakes on them too. They have different options for the bed; I bought both the wheelbarrow and cargo bed so I can use it for all kinds of stuff. It’s worth it to not put a bunch of wear and tear on your body just to move around a cart of weight. BTW, I have a cart similar to the one you used for V5 and it’s just no match for the Makita one. I basically never use it now.

It's still convective heat transfer. Natural convection relies on the bouncy forces moving warm, less dense air upwards. Forced convection relies on fans or other methods of forcing the airflow over the warm bits. But they are both connective heat transfer.

I like this rig. I built a 8x12 solar shed on a pontoon boat trailer to run a house, partly to avoid any code issues with solar in a house. Also,I am crazy about portability in case of disaster. I’m sure they have small trailers with one axle that you could back easier than the wagons. I don’t have the money to build it now but a new version of the cart idea could be a train for battery expansion. You could roll off the cart with the inverter and battery, then have two more expansion batteries on their own trailers. All three small trailers would fit on a 5x10 utility trailer. This setup would be great for a weekend cabin or campsite where cars couldn’t access. Should easily support a whole weekend camping trip for the family, then tie it all back into the home system for battery storage otherwise. I’m about finished building a solar shed under another house’s solar array but am thinking it would be better to just build it all in a beater car or van and park it under the array. Even if the vehicle isn’t roadworthy, it could be loaded onto a trailer for quick portability. My life has been turned upside down by watching Will’s videos. My children will have to sue him for causing their inheritance to go up in smoke.

The next version could be on a small flatbed utility trailer (maybe 6x8 or 6x10) that you can pull behind a car. Then, there is plenty of capacity and room for lots of battery and maybe some semi permanent mount solar panels. Even the super cheap ones have axels that can support 1500lbs at least. That would be pretty useful... the DIY solar power trailer with enough battery capacity to run a small house or cabin for a few days without charging.

Will, I try to watch all your videos but there is never enough time to do everything I want to. Thank you for so many Great videos. I worked for years as an electrician and later as a Systems Integrator and I don't mind giving some help if it's applicable. If you hadn't seen them there are electrical hole plugs that use a "locknut" on the inside and some have a flat rubber washer on the under/out side. These are in American pipe sizes so it may be a little off size. Another option not as good looking but better as it is non conductive is to use a threaded PVC plug and a threaded female fitting on the inside. Almost any female fitting would work here if it will fit inside the space. Just after a non conductive female thread to attach the plug to the cabinet. A bead of silicone on the edge before inserting the male portion would help make it water-resistant.

I built something similar back in 2020, but on a smaller scale. It's on the same type of wagon, but the wagon is smaller. The battery is a 100ah AGM, the inverter is only 1000 watts, and it has a 100 watt solar panel mounted on top that has an adjustable tilt angle for the particular time of year. I use it during the many power outages we have here in rural Appalachia to charge lights, laptops, phones, and Bluetooth speakers. It helps to get us through the sometimes multiple days long outages.

Good job, moved to a metal cart as suggested. This works for SOME uses, can be loaded on a trailer or hauled across land for temporary power but offers no more than a generator would. Think you're missing its true potential and that is solar, now it offers more than the generator, can be used for long term power outages and MORE SO, the cart is perfect for hauling the panels too with almost NO extra footprint. I'd help you build a rack for it if I lived close. With panels it has a much larger market and commercial potential. Minimally I'd build a nice fiberglass cover for it maybe with a solar top just to offset idle consumption, and protect it from the elements. Or a top that could haul stuff or allow one to store stuff on it, it takes up a lot of room. Helping fabricate stuff like that would be fun, an inventor and model builder who works with many materials I'd make short work of turning out an attractive composite cover.

Your first setup when you’re struggling to pull it. If you put another handle on it similar the the other truck with the lower connection to the frame you’ll find it’s easier to pull even with smaller wheels

There’s a battery powered remote control receiver hitch on rubber tracks for moving a trailer around your driveway FYI.

Your videos are great to increase our knowledge of hardware, but how seamless are they in real life? New Video Suggestion: how do the DIY whole home backup systems perform during critical transitions: 1. do clocks blink from grid to backups switch? Will wifi routers/desktop computers reset if no UPS? 2. can they take over during peak grid rate hours 4 - 6 hrs daily and only recharge during offpeak hours? (again, with no power glitches??) Very curious to learn more about the end product before i invest, thanks!!! love you channel. An Exact oscilloscope graph of voltage over time (in milli-sec or micro-secs) during a power failure and another during a peak grid to backup transition would be GREAT!!!!!

@willprowse I ordered the setup you made for version 3 cart it should arrive in a few days and I already want to upgrade to your version 5. I wonder if Signature Solar will let me return.

if you keep one of the pivot points from flexing on the cart, it'll back up easier.

It would be great to add a motor to the heavy cart to make moving it easier.

Clearly the power will leak out by having the inverter upside down just put the plug ends up high and it will stop the leakage
