Fun fact: there was an idea for the ending that was scrapped where the janitor would get into his car and take out a notebook that says “The Unites States Most Haunted Places” he would open it up and listed inside are names of all these haunted places in the US that are crossed off, one place on the list is Willy’s which he would cross off.

Loved this film. It's a film that seems like it shouldn't work, but Nicholas Cage is able to act with just his looks and it's hilarious. It's the best slasher-comedy I've seen in a while. The teens tell him to get out and he just looks like, I have a job to finish. He's a prime example of solid work ethics.

I'm really glad you enjoyed the fact that The Janitor doesn't speak. Personally, that's one of the best parts of the movie is the fact he doesn't say anything and doesn't react to any of the craziness. He just does his job diligently and goes with the flow. Amazingly that's what makes him so interesting, you wonder about who he is and what his background is and you never really want to find out. It's much more fun to theorize and guess!

@@jameseads6597 I guess so, and it doesn't... So it does. It's one of my favorite "what in the fuuuuh?" movies. It's got Paul Giamatti in it as Arnie, so that helps, too. And whoever plays John is pretty good, too. Idk, it particularly works for me because I went and watched it on Netflix 4-5 years ago when it was on there not knowing what to expect. It was so weird, trippy and funny in places for the wrong and right reasons that I just enjoyed it. The hotdog phone, the dog, the "ghost door needs a ghost hand" part. It's definitely a sum of it's parts viewing experience, but idk how well it translates the book. Haven't read it.

I think the reason they never fought was simple: they didn't want to risk it not working. Imagine if they'd actually gone in guns blazing...and it didn't work. The town would have been screwed. The Janitor was just responding to the threat in front of him, so he didn't care about anything but doing what he had to.

@@caetlinbirmingham5077 my hypothesis is that not only is the janitor that kid that got bitten by willy in the flash back, but also that liz’s parents in the intro were actually her mother and step father, the janitor is her biological father. The mother divorced him while he was in the military because she couldn’t stand the thought of losing him, but on a family vacation trip they arrived in town and the beginning of the movie happened, the janitor years later was searching for them because they disappeared without a trace after he returned home from a military conflict, when he arrived in the old town he grew up in and saw Liz but not her mother he realized what happened. He is silent because of PTSD from both the attack and war, most likely he was in special opps (the dog-tags in the car at the beginning all but prove he is military). Its also why he showed no reaction when liz told the story about the place, he already knew. He sticks to a tight schedule due to PTSD. The evidence he could be her dad is mostly 2 circumstantial things: when he first arrived the janitor actually stared at liz for a while, granted liz did the same. Her reason for staring is obvious: he is the sacrifice, but the janitor had no real reason to stare at her unless he recognized her. And lastly at the end of the movie when the two drive off and the janitor hands liz a soda we get a camera shop where you can read part of the soda can, but only one word is clearly legible on the can in the shot: pop.

He ends up in a suburb and crushes Michael Meyers head. He has Freddy Kruger knockoff invade his dream and he just kills him. A Chucky knockoff... destroys it. The potential is endless. Just the ultimate horror movie subversion with the monster/villain/slasher completely emasculated.

I literally just finished watching this and had to jump on to see your reaction. I love how every time an animatronic moves Nic Cage just doesn't care. Any other character would scream, he looks fed up with them. It's not the best movie ever, but that's how it seems like it was written. It's just a fun over-the-top Nic Cage ripping Five Night at Freddys in the most Nic Cage way possible. Love it. Plot twist: the Janitor is Johnny Blaze after he loses his Ghost Rider powers. That's why nothing phases him.

Him showing up and becoming a janitor was all apart of his plan. Some hypothisize the janitor is lizz’s biological father who went to war and developed ptsd, possibly part of some secret force that deals with supernatural threats. He came home and couldnt find his daughter, his ex wife or her new husband so he is searching for answers. He could also be that kid from the birthday flashback and when he learned they were passing that town he followed them perfectly aware of Willy’s, decided to kill two birds with one stone especially after he found lizz was safe but her mother was no where to be seen.

Think of this movie like it's a videogame... and Cage is the protagonist of the game. It makes a lot more sense that way as to why in the hell he keeps cleaning (the objective tells him to), why he need to take his breaks and drink punch while playing pinball (cuz it's the minigame in between level stages). It also explains why Duct Tape is an answer - cuz he wounded, time to heal.

So here is my favorite theory Nicolas Cage is a hunter. He works for the devil collecting souls of those that made deals with the devil. Hence he knew about the animatronics here and knew what to expect. which is why he wasn't surprised by them. It also explains how he could beat them so easily when everyone else struggled against them. It also explains why he keeps cleaning and taking breaks, because thats the deal he made with the owner. As a collector for deals he would hold the ideal of the deal very dear and would stick to any deal he makes.
