I have an '89 YJ that took me 4 years to build. It has been one of the most rewarding things I have done. I think you will find the same thing once you get it on the road, even more than working on it. Just st little goals and you'll get it done. DON'T GET DISCOURAGED AND GIVE UP. I'm glad you decided to keep it.

Happy about your decision to keep the jeep, Josh. They always come in handy where your gator may not be legal for on road travel. Also the accumulation of tools is a necessity. You've got many of the farm tools, logging tools, mechanic tools and tools for processing meat and chicken. Tools for this project are just as important. Happy for you. One very wonderful tool we purchased from Eastwood was their flaring tool for making brake lines. It is WONDERFUL ! Check it out. You'll never be sorry. Also we did install stainless brake lines so no more rusted ones, ever. Best of luck. Happy you are getting great advice from the pros and friends nearby.

A buddies dad owned a body shop and I used to spend a lot of time there. He used to use blankets to cover everything except the area you're sanding. Always clean afterwards, a little dusty but no sand. He also used to drape plastic from the ceiling to the floor just around the vehicle and would then blow it out then spray with water before painting. I learned the hard way that you need to be sure to wipe down the ceiling otherwise you get to re-sand and re-prep the entire top of the vehicle. Great times! Love the Willy's.

If the leaf springs aren't bent or broken they are fine. If they are just misaligned then get some spring clamps (under$4 each). They didn't always use them back in the time frame of the Jeep's day.

Them go jacks are something else. Best design I have seen. Not a big fan of rubberized undercoat. When water ever gets in behind it, and eventually it will, it will rot the metal big time. I had a trailer that a guy brought me to basically go over, fix lighting, check wheel bearings ect. I called him over a few days later to show him what this rubberized under coat had did, lets just say the trailer was 5 years old, and within 2-3 more years I could have put the hammer through the frame. Now granted this trailer was used hard, and left sitting around the shore(salt water), but still was the fact it trapped any water, salt ect. I ended up chipping the whole trailer, painting, and rust checking. When chipping the undercoat was coming with 1/16th - 1/8th inch rust scale, off most of trailer. In saying all that, on your Jeep, may work out the best, as most of the time it will be stored in a dry place. Glad to hear the Jeep will remain in the family, as it has for years.

Josh for the engine crane, get one with folding legs as they take up less room in the shop. Buy 2 yards of 5/16 chain and 4 d shackles at the hardwar shop. You can hacksaw them to a suitable length for lifting the engine. Get a soft car cover for the grand national because grinding within 10 feet of it will throw iron filings the size of dust onto the paint and they will stick and go rusty if they get wet. also get a cup shaped wire brush wheel that fits your 4, 4 1/2 or 5 inch angle grinder. They have groups of twisted wire and are way more vicious than the ones with just straight wire. Great for stripping off rust and paint. Wear gloves and goggles as when the wire strands break off they will embed themselves in you without any effort on your part.

once you finish with all the fancy rust encapsulation and undercoatings, you should get a jug of cheap bar and chain oil and give your frame a good coat of oil.......there is a reason old vehicles have frames that are still solid after years......seeping oil that traps dirt turning into a thick tarry substance keeps water off of the metal......just reapply every year when things dry up. The truck I just bought in Dec will be getting a nice coat of oil once the weather is appropriate for it.

👍👍Stoney Ridge Speed Shop glad to hear you're keeping the Jeep. The rebuild will be as much fun as driving when finished. It has to be pretty cool feeling to be working on the jeep after growing up with it on your Pop's farm. Woooooo!

Under coating is not a good idea because it will hold water in and cause more rust. That's why they don't sell it anymore at car dealerships. The go jacks work awesome we used them in the towing industry big help at work. PSA use go jacks on level ground, lol. Love the show. Huge fan!

Go to Walmart and buy a Aerosol Spray Handle Grip- it fits over the spray can, saves your finger and allows you spray a even finish. They only cost $5.

For many years I have always wanted a farm, and after watching you great videos I have now even more interest in getting a farm in the future. Also your lucky to have all those great tractors, it's good you kept that backhoe.

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer 200 acres is quite a size....Gator down, you have Willy to back up, now 100 dollar F150 is backing you up, if Gator down. We can't sure when will Willy up and running. So Gator, F 150 must be always healthy...we should start painting F 150 rusted area, when Willy is running like a champion. F 150 can help you a lot when you start building your beautiful home...Silver is your tanker and your back up outgoing truck if Cumming need minor surgery....am I right Sir...?

An engine hoist can be used for other things too and is easy to use in the shop on concrete floor.

Dont know if you know of the tool that is like a sand blaster but don't use sand it uses steel rods I think it is called a needles air tool breaks up rust without the sand pretty noisy tool but does a good job from what I've seen.
