When we moved to our new house and were keeping him locked in the house to acclimatise, he escaped out of a window and ended up 130 miles away back in our old house. They can certainly do it.

@sharonbunn23633 ай бұрын
I used to have a ginger tom, he was evil. He used to hide under cars and leap out to attack the neighbourhood dogs. We had to remove the catflap because he would bring in animals to "play" with including a pheasant, a rabbit and a seagull. One day we got a complaint from a woman who lived about 10 miles away that our cat was breaking into her kitchen, beating up her two siamese and eating their food. We had him neutered to try to curb his jaunts but it didn't stop him. When we moved to the north of Scotland he came back one day all torn to shreds, it took him days to recover. When he went back out he was gone for a couple of days, we thought the worse but the farmer said he had seen him chasing rats on the farm and when he did return it was with half a weasel in his jaws. The whole family was terrified of him. He died of kidney failure at the age of 16. RIP Fleabag

Still, I am delighted to tell you about the lady in the red top, Dianne Morgan as *Philomena Cunk* and I suggest *Best Bits* & *On America* but there are many more hilarious video clips of Philomena Cunk on KZbin.

One of my favourite clips , Richard Osman and Dianne Morgan ( Philomena Cunk )on David's team .Rory is a nice lad ,a former Top Gear presenter and I could see him being concerned about Mark Dennis it brings back memories of the feral cats that lived in the docks for generations , they were fiercely independent , and did exactly what they wanted turning up after months of roaming .I believed this from the start . Well done Jodi .

Hi David. So is it their extraordinary sense of smell that enables this? I know of a dog who had never been to the Owners' new home until the day they moved 10 miles away,who,on the first evening there,made its way back to their own home:)
@DavidSmith-cx8dg3 ай бұрын
@IsleofSkye Their sense of smell might help , but the big old males used to move around and had big territories . If a ship left they might move on for food or to find a lady friend perhaps . I know they were untamable ( several people tried ) but we're happy to play the domestic if it suited them . Fascinating over the years , sadly they were cleared out in the 1990s . I'd take the hundred miles with a pinch of salt but that's what they told Rory and I definitely think it's possible .

I removed a stray cat from my neighbourhood once and dropped it like 20 miles away and it came back after a few weeks so this was actually believable to me. 100 miles though... I wonder how long it took for the cat to come back. They should have asked him that. A few months may be??

My Dad used to tell me of the cat he had in his 20s who used to go out beating up all the other cats in the neighbourhood. He had one eye and was called Nelson. One day he left and never came back, until 5 years later, my Dad had started seeing my mother. One day they were in the living room and Nelson strolled in. He looked around the room in a 'oh yeah, I used to live here' way, threw up on the carpet, turned around and left. He was never seen again.....

My dad had a cat that would spend most of its time outside. In the 20 years he had it he moved house twice, and each time the cat found the new house without having to take the cat there. It was only 10 or so miles each time, but it's still fascinating.

It sounds like a flawed and also security risk cat-flap if it opens on loss of power rather than closing. It spends most if it's time closed why energise the lock to close it, surely you energise to open it (pull the catch back).

So, not only did it escape the cat sanctuary it then walked 100 miles back to where it came from. More likely they drove 20 miles and then just let it go.

Of dark cats. Dave Allen tells a joke about the Pope arguing with an atheist. He gets frustrated and says to the atheist, "You are like a blind man, in a dark cellar, looking for a black cat, that does not, in fact exist ". To which the atheist replies, "You too are like a blind man, in a dark cellar, looking for a black cat that does not, in fact, exist. The difference is, you found it".

Nothing in that story sounded false to me. If you know cats, you know that they can do stuff like that. I had a cat once who disappeared and was found at least 100 km from our house. And one of my grandma's cats was gone for two years one time and then suddenly came back like nothing had happened.
