I’m using Ramshot Magnum, it seems to be the best in my rifle, those old screw machine Noslers are awesome, I still have a few from the 70s

I’ve been loading the 264 win mag for over 20 years now. The best powder I’ve used for it is H4831. Unfortunately, the reloading data for it is way underloaded for some reason? Compared to the same bullet weight in the 7 mag shows almost a difference in powder of 10 grains. I honestly think they are trying to kill this cartridge so you will buy one of the newer 6.5s? Good video!
@ReloadingQuest2 жыл бұрын
Awesome I will have to try that powder out. I agree on killing it off. The 284-6.5 Norma does interest me the most on a 6.5 round. I love my 6mm and 30 cal guns though.
@jonbaniak90972 жыл бұрын
If I were building another gun on 6.5, it would be the 6.5-257 Weatherby mag. It give almost 26 Nosler velocity with less powder. I built a 28 Nosler and think this cartridge is the ultimate hunting round for North America. I nickname it the Grim Reaper. Also, you really need to give Hammer bullets a try. Best bullet I’ve ever used for a hunting bullet. Take care!

Great video I've been looking for a load as well. I'm thinking of H1000 because it's temp sensitive and Speer Gold Dot 140gr. The bullet length 1.27" and has a BC advertised at .571. I've had it custom loaded before but I got no load work up from them but it stabilized great. If you have any more load information you can send my way 🙂

I just saw this video. What is the barrel twist rate in that rifle. I have a custom made 264 Win Magnum. I had my gunsmith team the throat farther out so I could extend the bullets farther. I found 59.2 grains of RL-22 with a Hornady 143 grain ELD-X bullets shoots half inch groups ( or smaller if I am good that day). My barrel has a 1:8 inch twist .
@ReloadingQuest2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. It’s a 1:9 twist

What I use is Reloader 22 with a 140gr Hornady SST, average velocity is 3010fps. 5/8” group at 100 yards and she’s a beast.
@ReloadingQuest2 жыл бұрын
That’s pretty dang good. Not sure this gun will do that with out free floating the barrel.
@rex89582 жыл бұрын
@@ReloadingQuest it’s possible just the journey there might burn out the barrel lol, honestly you might have to stick with a standard spitzer soft point flat base style bullet. It should be capable of hunting groups even with a non floated barrel

I’m not the biggest fan of the 140 grain in the 264. I prefer the 130 grain tsx for bigger game and the 120 grain for deer. I did a bedding job on my 264 they made it shoot way more consistent. I’ve never had any luck with the reloader 22. Good video keep up the good work.
@ReloadingQuest2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I am sure part of the grouping problem is it’s not beded and barrel is not free floated. But it’s not my gun so I had to work with how my buddy wanted to keep it. Thanks for watching! And the advice!
@rex89582 жыл бұрын
All I’ve loaded for 264 mag is 140gr SSTs and it’s grouped great. From what I’ve read and seen 120grs gives the peak performance from the 264 mag

That's a lot of extra work. You could just buy a 6.5 prc and shoot factory ammo at the same velocities you are reloading to. It's called the internet and gunbroker, buy cases of ammo...done.

If you actually watch the video you would know it’s not my rifle and I also do not shoot 6.5 my self. I won’t on a 6.5 caliber nor a 270. 7mm or 30 cal. But of course ur a troll and think ur being smart. Not only that, the fun part about Handloading is finding a round that it likes.

Grand slams always shoot the best between 50 and 90 tho off the lands and retumbo is to slow for 140 class bullets in a 264 you need to be using something like 7828 H1000 is as slow as you would want to use unless your goikg to be shooting 150 + weigh bullets!! Loads can be found with retumbo but there far and few between!! Anytime your using a traditional hunting bullet like the grand slams partitions interlocks or that type start at 50 tho out the lands and work further out when u find the charge with the best extream spread!!
