On April 1st a 80+foot red oak fell over onto my cousins house and did quite a bit of damage. It was a crying shame the three man team who came had to cut it up into 4-6 foot chunks to remove it, instead of the 12 -16 foot sections for lumber. It was Well over 200 years old.

Some thoughts from Spokane, where this scenario plays out almost every year. 1) cut down all trees within falling distance of your house 2) don’t water trees-either they survive on their own or they don’t but when you water, they have no reason to send down deep roots. Did you see the small root crown when it went down?

That was a really rare video, where and when did this happen? The other day I was out in my yard and I kept hearing a light popping noise that I couldn't pinpoint. At 2:30 in the morning, still out in my yard working on a fence, the popping was impossible to ignore. I got a high powered flashlight and was scanning the upper branches of a really big pine by my gate when a Big limb came crashing down on my gate and fence. I realized that I was fortunate to have witnessed the distress calls of a drought stressed tree. Now, if I ever hear that again, I will know to stand Way back. I'm 63 and it's only happened once, but...

You’re lucky it didn’t fall the other direction! 😮 thank you for your courage to capture the moment or knowing that it would happen (?). I had a tree fall onto our house in 2017, luckily the awning caught most of the fall thank goodness! After it was cut down I counted the rings, the tree was 43 years old, one year younger than the house!

Did 8 trees on one property, next day 2 more blew over..on the way home power lines were falling .never seen so many broken trees here in east Tennessee...back in 93 or 95 there was blizzard here. And up until Illinois Wisconsin boarder waz tornados .we did park distract storm cleanup and parks on the river .powerlines. I remember standing on big willow and oak trees I the river cutting them out of the water and banks . With a 088 bigger than me and a old 44 tractor chsins pulling them out ..after clearing lines.alot of big willows 12 ft around and oak .cherry s,hickory s..fell in the water.

I was out hunting deer around Nov during rifle season. It's the middle of winter I'm sitting down and take a nap when I woke up an aspen tree snapped at the top and when it fell the tip of the tree stuck into the ground making a thud noise. The tree stuck straight up and down, keep in mind the ground is frozen solid, the tree is still in the ground after all these years.
@leaf2180
@leaf2180 Жыл бұрын
I was about to say those must've been some extreme winds or that the ground was saturated, because that looks like a hickory, which are very flexible trees with a strong, deep root system. Then you zoomed out and i saw it was dead, that explained it lol.

Rules about trees: Don’t have a tree in your yard if you want a lawn, because most trees kill the lawn around them. Don’t have a tree that’s tall enough to fall on your house. Don’t have a tree anywhere near your foundation or septic system. Finally, there’s such a thing as an ugly tree, so try to plant one that is actually pleasant to look at.

So for anyone seeing some sway in the ground like this your tree is most likely diseased or dead.. the feeder roots are not getting enough nutrients and the supports roots are weak and not apreading far enough.. but if its not dead proper treatment and deep root fertilization along with a bit of pruning will help keep ol'oakey up right and safe.. this one looks to be diseased and malnourished but sunce it was far enough out they just left it..

Had a big oak do that and just brushed the front of my house. Root rot and wind are unpredictable. Another few feet and my house, and myself, would’ve been smashed. A couple months earlier a large black cherry tree split in half about 12’ up and one of the trunks landed 4’ away from the other side of the house. I saw it fall as I was working out in the pasture. I thought surely there would be some damage, but it just missed scraping my window a/c unit out of the window. That’s twice that God has protected me. It’ll make you a believer.

Someone cleverly placed a concrete block on the upwind side to help keep the tree from blowing over. Next time maybe use 2 or 3 blocks.... and as the wind shifts, you gotta keep the blocks on the upwind side. This was a very half-hearted effort to save the tree.
