@jfv652 жыл бұрын
tip: next time you are in a hardware store get some teflon fitters tape. It makes for perfect seals in threaded connections like on that pump. Maybe also get a sheet of gasket material while you are there anyway. (compliments for actually making a paper gasket yourself. ) You can also buy small tubes of gasket paste (DIRKO is a good brand) that is heat resistant and stays flexible. Whenever i need to fit a part using a paper gasket i smear both sides with a thin layer of DIRKO and presto, perfect seal. The stickiness of that gasket paste also helps locate it in place which is useful when fitting a part in a vertical plain. Sweet to see the boat back in the water after all that work.

Few things. Replace brass endcover screws with stainless steel ones. Locate a half-moon or banana spanner of correct size for that pesky bottom bolt. On the shaft seal in the pump itself, remove the spring in the water side seal and replace it with an o-ring as the spring will rust away causing the seal to stop sealing on the driveshaft due the pressure inside the main body of the pump.

Ok. Reference to 15:27 of the video. That "socket", is a 3/8" drive. The correct tool besides your ratched is a 3/8" swivel socket adapter. So, rather than putting a socket on the end of the swivel, you insert the male 3/8" into the square hole. But wait, there is more. You also need at least a 6" -3/8" socket extension to get away from the blockage, which prevents you from putting your ratchet right down on the hole. It is always something. I would go to an automotive parts store at your next location in Moorea. I recognize this was 3 months ago, but you will probably be visting this problem again at some point. It really only takes the right tools.

But now, i prefer to use only my outboard if possible, no risks of leakages , and other dirty /heavy complicated maintenance, etc. My next step on my next boat will be to use mainly a scull /row /japanese yuloh . Hi Holly! I thought I'd pass along a little trick for getting rusted bolts out. Maybe you know this trick, but in case others don't. The Blaster is good stuff, I prefer the Deep Creep spray, but no matter; soaking and waiting, soaking and waiting, was of course the right thing to do at first. Now, once you get the rusted bolt to move even the slightest bit. Stop. The trick is to tighten it back up slightly. Tightening it back up is usually easier because the bolt may be rounded off slightly from previous attempts to get it out, but not rounded off in the tightening direction. A lot of people just want to keep un-tightening it in one direction -- big mistake -- often breaking the bolt head off. Sometimes it has taken me a couple of days to get just one bolt out, but so far this patient method has always worked for me. Back and forth, back and forth, and pretty soon out it comes! LOVE your videos! Keep up your great adventure! Cheers! ~M

@terrapod48982 жыл бұрын
Several small tubes are better to have on hand than a large tube. Once the sealants are opened they harden in the tube and can't be used. Probably more silicon goes to waste than gets used making a gasket if you have to open a large tube of sealant.
