Thanks so much! Just lined my first crochet blanket with the help of your tutorial. You're right about the fabric moving a bit when you sew it! Thankfully I stitched just one edge then checked it before sewing the opposite edge. I ended up having to adjust the other pinned side to give it more slack before sewing. Thrilled with how it turned out!

Glad I found this! My boyfriend has a crocheted blanket by his grandmother but he doesn't want to use it because of how it stretches and moves like a spiderweb (he is worried about damaging it... but it seems silly to just keep things in storage). I am going to find someone to do this for him as a christmas present.

You definitely can tack places in the middle. When you quilt you will often tack areas in the middle. This was a 36" x 36" baby blanket so it was not as necessary but that is very good advice.

@@WindingRoadCrochet I have a large crochet blanket that I'm in the process of backing, and I'm having trouble finding instructions on how to tack places other than the edges, but I feel it needs that. Any advice or resources you know about?
@ArDeeMee Жыл бұрын
@@melaniedebusk5971 You could look up tutorials on quilting, since quilts have to connect two layers of fabric and a filler together. If those were to move around the entire thing would tear. The easiest method would be to sow it in several lines along the length and width, which gives it the box look.

I have a blanket that’s around 1,7m x 1,5m and made out of mini hexagons. How can I prevent the two materials from coming apart in the middle? I feel like it could be a problem with a bigger blanket. Would be glueing maybe a better option?
@WindingRoadCrochet9 ай бұрын
In quilting they will make a single stitch in certain spots in the middle to keep the fabrics together. You could make a stitch (with yarn) and weave in the ends on the crochet side or in quilting they will sew a stitch and knot the ends together and clip the ends to about 1/2” and leave them that way.

I know this is a pretty old video, but did you use the standard feet on your machine or did you change it? I have a similar Brother sewing machine. Thanks so much for an easy to follow tutorial. This is my first time sewing so I like that your tutorial is very simple and easy. Wish me luck 😅

Thanks so much for the tutorial! I came here because I'm having issues with the sewing machine catching. At first it seemed like the top thread was too loose because the bottom had a bunch of thread bunching. I turned the dial down from 4 to 1, but now it keeps getting caught. I noticed your dial is at 6, is that what you would suggest? Or is it possible that this dial is not my issue? I've sewn a lot in the past, but never my crochet or knitting projects. I'm nervous that I've no idea why it keeps getting caught haha
@WindingRoadCrochet4 жыл бұрын
The first thing I would do is to try running a plain piece of fabric through the machine. The only setting I changed for my machine to sew on crochet is the stitch length. I found that my stitches became very small so I made them bigger using the settings. I don't think they problem is the crochet part, though on some projects I do have to have the crochet part on top and the fabric on bottom if it is a loose crochet stitch or a delicate yarn.
@guaiguai00764 жыл бұрын
@@WindingRoadCrochet Thanks for the response! That actually helps a lot because now I won't be fooling around with the dial haha.

Hello … Did you lower the feed dogs on your sewing machine while sewing the liner on?
@WindingRoadCrochet3 жыл бұрын
Yes I did. You will need to test your crochet before you sew on a liner. Some yarn will get snagged on the feed dogs. Sometimes yarns you will need to sew the fabric side down and other might do better with the fabric side up.

I see your iron does not have a cable. Is it a "wireless" one? I hope it is!

No, I actually ironed the project before hand and used the iron as a quick example. The iron has a button to wind the word up and it hides in the back of the iron.

Do you do any tying to keep the fabric from bunching?
@WindingRoadCrochet3 жыл бұрын
I pin all the way around it. It is also good to pin a little in the middle. If you don't want the end result to be like a pillow (with an open middle). You can sew a few stitches in the middle of the blanket too.

@WindingRoadCrochet4 жыл бұрын
I like to hand wash mine or machine wash one a gentle cycle. Is the yarn pilling or the fabric? You can get a sweater shaver to help pull the pilling off. But this has a lot more to do with what type of yarn/fabric was used.
@WindingRoadCrochet3 ай бұрын
I just wash mine in the washing machine with cold water and on low heat but that depends on the yarn used and what it reccomends.

@WindingRoadCrochet4 жыл бұрын
The stitch size is a little tricky. My machine was set for a larger stitch size but when it crocheted on the fabric the stitches were smaller than I would expect them to be for that size. The best you can do is to make a small crochet sample and test it out with your machine.
