Hey, are you using Manjaro KDE or something else? I’m planning to get the KDE version (because of customizability) but I heard that KDE is less stable. If you are using the KDE version, is it stable and working fine for you? I’m a student so I need a stable distro, preferably Manjaro.

"until I get a hardware upgrade" If you end up getting a machine with two GPUs (i.e. CPU's integrated graphics + actual GPU) you could dedicate the stronger GPU to a Windows VM using PCI passthrough to get near-native performance with no chance of your dual boot setup breaking.

Also, you shouldnt be ranting about needing to activate windows to change the taskbar alignment as if you dont have windows activated, it probably means you have pirated windows. You dont rant about pirated games not allowing you to play multiplayer, right? well, same thing applies here.

I have been using these systems for 35 years, mostly Mac and somewhat Windows. In recent years, I have observed how little genuine regard a lot of companies have for their customers. Fortunately, there's a way out for me. In my current job, I have to set up and administer a Linux Debian box. While Debian requires a great deal of attention and it can be quite frustrating, I also see how much more control over the system a user has. I am probably on my last or penultimate Mac now. I plan to switch to Linux in a year or two. I hope it will be worth the switch.
@bryants69382 жыл бұрын
It will worth it! As long as you patience in learning. It took me around a week to grasp the basic with using terminal which called "power user". Nowaday Linux is more friendly to Immigrant/New Users. You dont need to have everything works with Terminal even though it is *REALLY Recommended*. It works like kind of windows now, you could just use the UI (store,update,etc.) But production software has some problem. If the software exist in linux then its good if not WINE could help but not always. If this doesnt work, either you do DUAL-BOOTING (Linux&other OS) or search software alternative. Nowadays pro production software alternative have stepped up their game like LibreOffice compared to MsOffice, DaVinciResolve with AdobePremiere. If were talking about game it has been a lot better, with the help of WINE and PROTON most steam game available to play (with workaround) except Anti-Cheat games. You could even play EPIC GAMES games. Too bad most of the time you couldnt play Indie Games though.

@@bryants6938, thanks for the boost of confidence. I have little doubt that there are analogs to the common office suites. I even have downloaded and tried LibreOffice on my Linux box. My current stymies are twofold: (1) that I can’t move files between Linux and Mac. I’m flummoxed, as you can well imagine. Now, Debian is running inside a VirtualBox on a host Mac OS. so it must be in the interaction. (2) I couldn’t get Guest Additions to work to handle files between Debian and Mac OS. GA does work on Ubuntu and the service command on the Debian terminal tells me GA is running. I’m sure I’ll figure it out. Thanks for the boost of confidence!

If you have low system requirements/windows 11 is too bloated for you/don’t want Linux, You can actually use xp and vista, low system resources, xp and vista have undergoing extended kernels being made (unofficial) with which you could use much more modern apps (x64 mostly preferred for this extended kernel as x86 is still very young and may not work as expected). And the stuff about not able to customise your desktop without activating windows 11, I am pretty sure you could change some keys in the registry to remove those restrictions. I mean Microsoft is freely giving a fix for it lol
