It's finally time to lift the cloche together... Can we make this the world's largest online wine tasting?!
Thousands of you will be tasting along with our Lift The Cloche experience or have sourced the wines yourselves, so sit back and get ready to taste along with us, arming us all with the know-how and vocab to understand what you like, what to look out for when buying wine, and what to ask for in a restaurant.
Those drinking along... get wines 1-4 in the fridge until we start at 7pm. Have at least 2 wine glasses to hand and any snacks you want to enjoy!
Get ALL your questions into the chat and we'll get Ebbers to answer them throughout the live!!
To find out more about the wines we're tasting, click here: www.sortedfood...
If you're in the UK and would like to get hold of the wines for a later time, you can still buy them here: www.sortedfood...
Plus... this weekend, the awesome guys at Online Wine Tasting Club are giving you 10% off ANYTHING you buy from them. Our tasting pack, a full case, the odd bottle or two of your favs or even their advent calendar. Use the code: "EBBERS10" at checkout or click here:- onlinewinetast...

I feel left out just watching everyone else have a time. I hope you are able to get the next live tasting box available to ship to the US. Please consider posting a list of the food pairings so I can prepare my own little tasting for the live show. #whining I would love to feature these on my next turn to host the family tasting night. Is it possible to upload the list as a PDF I can take shopping?

I don't drink alcohol but I'm very into tea and watching this, it reminded me a lot about it. I would love to see you guys do a tea tasting video one day with teas that a lot of people aren't familiar with like pu erhs of different ages or terroir.

I can't drink alcohol before for medical reasons, but I used to be a wine drinker. I went to Madrid with my mum about 10 years ago for my 18th birthday and we had a verdejo in a wine bar in a back road. It came, 3 euros a glass and it was bright green and you couldn't even see through it really. We were so confused but when we tasted it it was AMAZING. It tasted like grass, almost like a green smoothie and a wine had a baby. We tried to find a bottle to buy and take home but we couldn't. We went to the same bar a few times during our trip so we could have more but it was never quite as nice as that first night. This experience watching was so fun, I wish alcohol free wine tasting was a thing

Well done, guys. Not sure if it's out there on KZbin somewhere, but I would highly recommend a series James May (of Top Gear and Grand Tour fame) did with Oz Clarke, a well-respected wine writer. James was a wine sceptic, which was the point of the show. However, having done a music degree, he made the connection that a great wine is like a piece of great music - there is lots going on and occasionally hearing it more than once reveals something new every time. The key recommendation I would make to everyone is: don't get hemmed in by "I don't like red" or "I don't like white". As you have shown, there are wide variations in each and that's before you get to the rose. One last thing: I went to a Champagne and sparkling wine tasting once. Worth the hangover!

Thoroughly enjoyed this gents, it's been a fascinating watch, thank you for doing it. It's a shame about your internet connection but the lo-fi approach really didn't affect the overall experience. I don't know if this is helpful but I thought I'd let you know anyway, if you get a second internet provider put in at the studio (ideally via a different delivery medium) you can use a "bonding" service (like Speedify) to bind them together and use both at once, which will give you much better resilience for live streaming. (This is different from "load balancing" which uses one network OR the other depending on network conditions.)

By fluke I managed to catch the live part of the white wine live. Till I fell asleep (I'm in New Zealand and not used to being up at 6am Saturday morning) Despite that, more please. I love the real feel of this format.

I cannot stand the tannins in red wine and it wasn't until my early 30's before I found a red that I could enjoy. Then I found syrah/shiraz Love that red wine. Lovely. I'll have to see if I can source the bottle you tried. If anyone is unsure about wines, go to an area with some wineries and do some wine tours. You will be able to taste different things and find wines you'll love. We once found a white port... omg.... so good. Pair chocolate covered blueberries with a Riesling it's so fun

In California for wine, don't restrict yourself to just the Napa valley. The central valley Lodi/Lockeford, the foothills (Amador City) have great wineries, as well as central coast (Paso Robles) and then there's the Santa Ynez (love/miss Gainey winery). Napa Valley may be world famous but CA has so many different microclimates, Napa isn't all there is.

Couldn’t comment during the stream as we were watching through our TV. Loved this format, really enjoyed learning a bit more about wine. Would this work with other things too? Cured meats or cheese perhaps?? Always a bit too cautious to branch out on our own, but with some selection in advance from a group we trust, it could help us out with trying things in future. Well done for finding a way through the gremlins a great evening all round!

so gooseberry has the same chemical smell composition as cat urine, which isn't a bad thing, just knowledge; and as we all know, that's power. with tannins, when you drink a red wine and tilt your head forward, you may notice a kind of salivation from the back of the mouth as if it's a dry experience. same with if you've oversteeped tea and you feel that kinda kick or drying sensation from it. a really fun secondary bouquet (the smells on that chart) is tomato stem, which is that floral/herbaceous/almost basil like scent

Thanks for this, we loved it. We shared one pack and for us that was just the right amount to share, enjoy savour and discuss. We found (as expected) our taste perceptions are quite different but that's part of the fun. My cynical views on wine tasting have been severely challenged by tonight, but it's still pretentious. Next time we will have snack and nibbles for each one, so please suggest pairings in advance. Sorry Mike, but we enjoyed the feel / atmosphere of the mobile version more than the slicker version (your personalities shine through more). My son and his partner were also online at the same time, ( 20 miles away) so we had a WhatsApp dialogue running all the way through. Great idea, do it again.

I'd love to see you try some Canadian wines. I live in the Niagara Region which has amazing wineries and vineyards. And because of the different seasons we have a great climate for ice wine. Or at least we have for now, with climate change and much warmer winters it makes producing ice wines much more difficult.

I've only ever heard of Beaujolais Nouveau. What is the different between that and the 2021 Beaujolais Lantignié? I've always been led to believe the Gamay wines shouldn't be aged. BTW - even though the wine tasting package wasn't available to me, I'm going to look for these wines in my Midwestern town.
@SortedFood

Great question. Because Beaujolais is made from thin skinned grapes with low tannin and low alcohol... nouveau is a really easy drinking red. Jean-marc and his wife have premium plots and use such precision in their winemaking that it ages nicely too! Fingers crossed that you can find some of them.

Enjoy you guys but a sincere question.when I watch chefs on video they talk expressively and by doing so expell spittal on the the food they don’t wear masks and then feed the food to people who obviously don’t consider such enhancement to the food ,I se this all the time and chef touch food with sweaty palms especially fancy chefs where they like to stack little foods on plate .my question is am I crazy or just a party pooper? Sincerly and by the way do chef s spit sweat and skin cells affect taste as some chefs may taste better than others and which chefs excretion taste best don’t think I would like Gordon Ramsay’s sweat thanks
