I’ve got to say, I’m so happy the Jamie & Mike tasted it up front… I’d hate him to feel picked on. And tbh they tasted it before it was gourmet-ed up, so they really took the hit… This was an iconic SortedFood episode, showing the matey, semi-evil friendship that exists between childhood mates in any country… who would absolutely do this to a mate as a gag… But with the hi-level chef mastery to make the dishes absolutely wonderful to taste. An iconic SortedFood episode, in the most unique way possible… 😂

Kinda shows was a rubbish challenge too tho, using posh dog food that’s basically human food defeats the purpose
@zoulsgaming9455

@@jjones8033 I disagree i think its the opposite. That it shows even dog food is edible and can be sourced well. Kush having to use headmeat in his can challenge where he was almost puking while cooking it because it smelled so bad was still used in a battle, so i dont see why they should become sick by using some sketchy cheap dogfood from a nondescript country.
@plaguednecro

@@jjones8033 the point is to show how fresh the dog food is. a lot of people want their pets to eat as well as they do, which often involves using fresh ingredients to make it where humans could eat too. really, most dog food, even the shitty dry stuff, is often safe for human consumption. should you? no, but often dog food will state that it's safe for human consumption as well

I still could never trust anyone again who tampered with my food on purpose. I'm one of those people who think you are allowed to joke about anything, no limits, dark humor totally fine, etc. but there are a couple things that are off-limit. @@ericconrad8854I think the reason why Baz reacted the way he did is because, while he did eat dog food, there is a deep sense of trust that comes with having worked with the Sorted Team for as long as they have. Also, the rest of them almost immediately went in to eat the same food he ate after the theme was revealed, which is a show of confidence in the cooking method and food safety of the dishes.

@@Lagonas_ That stuff.. totally yes. It's good quality, it's human safe ingredients. No issues. That is really premium stuff. You really should not try and do that with a supermarket dog food. That is not suitable for human consumption.... but I think that is the first thing that came to Barry's mind when he heard "dog food".
@tcaz
@tcaz 3 ай бұрын
@@Ghostbear2k For sure. It's the mental association people have of 'food unfit to be consumed by humans' that gave him a mental recoiling. Genuinely one of the best pranks possible though, imo- there's no harm because the stuff they used is really just mushed up real human edible food, Barry got a great meal, and after the reveal for the shock factor and laughs they more or less immediately took part in it themselves and reassured him, which essentially let him in on the joke too so he got in on the laughing instead of feeling hurt. I wish every prank could be as wholesome as that, honestly.

I keep complaining about KZbinrs doing all the same adverts with no personality inside, reading out what they're given...and in a way I'm not blaming them, I get that it's hard to earn money on KZbin these days but still - Sorted is really killing it with their ads. This is genuinely brilliant and so on brand! Love it! (Also I used to love your Kenwood sponsored series of 3 levels of one dish, that was also perfect.)

Many youtubers dont put demands on the companies, so the companies tell them what to do, and thats a common thing from the companies. And some youtubers let the company guide the entire video since its easy money. Sorted food has probably turn down more then half of the ad companies they get since the company wants them to follow their rules and say what they want to hear. No soul, just an ad.

This is 100% the kind of ad I can get behind. A genius idea, and incredibly bold on the sponsor's part. Granted, Kush and Ben would have been able to take almost literally anything edible and turn it into something delicious. Considering they didn't really hide the dog food, but instead put it in a context where it made sense and then complemented it, is wild. You have to be confident to put your product out there in this way. Extremely effective. It makes me wonder if there's something to take away for us, as humans. Everything in this episode comes in under the skill cap of your average home cook -- maybe not to formulate, but certainly to reproduce it. This episode is as much a modern re-imagining of "peasant food" as it was an ad for pet food. Take the parts of an animal that the nobles and well-off didn't want and turn it into delicious, nutritious food for your family.

About 60 years ago my mother, who was an extremely talented cook who regularly served 3 different meals every dinner time, weight watchers, diet diabetic, and hungry teenage boys, and who had 4 children and several cats in the family served us boys a cat food curry with out telling us what it was, we had repeatedly told her that the cat food was perfectly safe, the only reason that she was caught out before we finished the curry was that she had bought/used cat food enriched with bonemeal ! So we found many little rice grain sized pellets of bone in the curry, as far as I remember I finished my portion because as usual the curry was delicious.

It's clear the 4 of you really worked it out and came to terms with the dog food just being composed of simple ground up whole ingredients. His profound cognitive dissonance when you all wholeheartedly dig into the dishes he just learned are made of dog food is very self-evident. One of your all-time best episodes so far. Now this is a perfect combo of sponsor & channel - definitely a cut above what we've seen here before, and elsewhere all the bloody time. They all looked amazing, but I do hope there aren't any freaks out there buying only the veggie option for their dogs.

I was shocked to discover that some dogs out there are allergic to meat and needed non-meat options under strict supervision from the vet. If they could eat fish, those dogs were effectively pescatarian.

It was an exemplary episode where Baz was the point where the joke landed, but everyone else was also the subject of the joke. Having high quality dog food with Michelin starred chefs made into an excellent dish, tried by normals on the way of the cooking... and then attacked by everyone at the end, it was just perfect. Baz was both the aim of the joke, and wasn't being left alone as the focus. It was such a good example of friendship and skill.

Kudos to Baz for being the Guinea pig and not completely freaking out about it. This was a fun one. I have not had a dog in a while, but I know that the dog food industry is making strides to provide comestibles that resemble human food. As an aside, I do not think you could do this with cat food -- I would not even try. Thanks, guys for an entertaining bit of fun.

My roommates and I had 4 pets between us. We decided to make pet food from scratch once a month because it was cheaper and healthier than the canned or dry stuff. We’d buy a large pack of mince for 3 weeks, and one large pack of pork liver on the 4th week. Then we’d grate a bunch of carrots, add in minced garlic (to prevent fleas), rice and/or oats and some eggs. My Cuisinart got a workout “sliming” the liver and grating the carrots. Mix well and bake. My brother came over, took a deep breath and said, Smells good! What’s for dinner? not realizing we were baking pet food! Once cooled, we’d portion it out and freeze it. And yes, on occasion when we ran out of sandwich fixings, we’d have a “meatloaf” sandwich! Pet food doesn’t have to be crap.

My understanding is that garlic and onions. petmd backs up up FWIW: Garlic contains thiosulfate, which is toxic to dogs but not humans. Garlic is the most toxic member of the Allium family, which also includes onions, leeks, and chives. Admittedly, small quantities of leftover spaghetti bolognese (cooked trad English way) never hurt any dog we had, but it was just leftovers, and they liked it as 'not dog food' - also liked to steal cat food, which wasn't great.

@@jamesmansion2572 When it comes to garlic the situation is a bit tricker than just a plain 'it's good' or 'it's bad' for the dog. It has its benefits, but can also be toxic (same goes for humans, btw, too much garlic is unhealthy for us too). There are a few breeds which can not eat it at all, but for most breeds a bit (!) of fresh (!) garlic with their food, 3 or 4 times a week, is perfectly save and beneficial to health. Just don't feed it more than 1/2-1 clove per 10kg of body weight, don't give it to puppies (or super small dogs - I personally would do that either, too risky as it's too easy to overdose them), and make sure your dog isn't one of the breeds more susceptible to thiosulfate poisoning.

Thank you for being specific in that the food by itself is also human edible, but the dishes are not for dogs. People need to know that so they don't hurt their pets thinking they're making a nice meal for them. If you're gonna feed your dog people food, make sure to look things up, folks. Some of the most basic things we eat can cause real harm. They're not people.
