I feel like if you haven't done something within a few years, its safe to say that you can no longer say "I've always done that" and you should instead say "I used to do that a lot" or just "that's something that I used to do". Or else I could say that "I've always drank milk with pizza", even though I only did that while in grade school and have been out of grade school for nearly 5 years. Like, you do a backflip when you score a goal and you say “I have always done that”, you shouldn’t have to specify that “I have always done that when I score a goal, in a game, since I started playing”. The melody is entirely different and the chord structure is also different. I think song response writing or re-writing is really cool and valid, Flowers is also just a better song than WIWYM.
