Wing surf technique video in two parts. The behind the back tack into a wave is a new move I’m working on and I’m sharing what I learned. I also answer a viewer question- hold on or let go of wing when crashing? and also go over getting back on board and pumping back up on foil.

We Wing on a large fresh water lake. The waves/chop (< 1 m) is almost constant. I always try to fall with my front hand holding the handle. Twice I've had the Wing away from me and the combination of wind and chop has picked up my foilboad and thrown it onto my Wing.

Yes. The foil falling on the wing is so frustrating, you really want to do everything you can to avoid that. 🤙🏼

Another super cool and interesting video! I have a question: I’m a super happy user of your Reel Leash. Now that more and more companies are using the waist leash for the wing how do you set up the Reel Leash? Do you just put them together one on top of the other or how? Thanks for your answer ! Andrea

Great to hear Andrea. I just slide the wrist leash over the waist belt, see this video for my setup: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWiqkGxuedp6gbM

@@blueplanetsurf yes i got that, but what happen if you have a wing waist belt leash?
@blueplanetsurf
@blueplanetsurf 3 жыл бұрын
@@Andp1980 In that case, you could wear both belts together. I would remove the wing leash belt and attach the wing leash directly to the foil leash belt. On the Wasp V2 leash, you can just remove the waist belt and pull the loop on the leash directly through the reel leash belt so you don't need to use two belts.

Great tips thanks Robert. Do you ride switch foot at all as I see your foot strap positions are pretty locked in? Also what Axis foil setup were you running there, it looked fast!
@blueplanetsurf

Yes, I just keep my feet in the same positions both ways. I’m using the Axis 760 and 810 wings in these videos, great foils.🤙🏼

I should have mentioned that a fast, efficient foil with good glide is a prerequisite for tacking into a wave.

What do you do with the wing when the wind is on shore when riding a wave? I can turn into the wave and get going, but the wing stalls out as I start going faster than the wind. Then the wing falls into me and I eat it. The wind is usually light (8-10 knots) where I am and I have to use a 6M, so its hard get the thing out of the way. Any ideas?
@blueplanetsurf
@blueplanetsurf 3 жыл бұрын
Thant is a good question, getting backwinded because you are moving faster than the wind is a common issue when riding waves in onshore wind. One way to avoid it is to ride the wave to the left or right diagonally (rather than straight downwind) so you have more apparent wind. To switch directions you want to make a tight turn through the wind with the wing horizontal overhead so you don't get backwinded. This is a good topic for a future video.

@@blueplanetsurf Ah, over the head makes sense. I typically blow it after going left of the wave and then carving back as the wave is breaking and then there's the wing, ready to take me out. I will hold it overhead today and see how that works. Thanks.
