Wing foiling with a Axis Windsurfing Fuselage | Jonathan Reinke

Great day to be on the water at OO Denny. Lots of slogging but some good flying too.
The front wing is the Axis ART 1099 rear wing is the Progressive 400. The fuse is the black windsurfing 899mm and I have the 82cm aluminum mast 19mm thick.
I got a couple a flights Wingfoiling with my Axis windsurfing fuselage 899mm. With no shims it was too powerful in flight but it popped up nicely in a bit less wind I think vs my short fuselage 703mm. My feet were way far forward but that did not bother me in flight. It was the just too much power and slow / dragging feel of the too much lift or elevator stuck in the up position feel. I put two gift cards thick shims on the front screw of the back wing for some negative shim and it felt nice and fast. My feet were a bit more in a normal position too.
I attempted a flying jibe and I made it around switch footed. I touched down to switch feet and back up to flight. For me at least right now I can see the longer fuselage with some negative shim helping me to learn flying jibes. It is definitely less manuvarable and maybe faster? I will know more on speed after some more sessions.

Thanks for posting, definitely see the advantage on using for a very light wind day. I'd think, however, it would make jybing a little more challenging as you're not turning as quickly. Let me know how it works out for you. I find my ultrashort is a lot more turny and easier to hit jybes but doesn't get on foil as well as my short fuse.

Great thoughts David! I totally agree. I have technical been Wingfoiling for over a year. But I took some breaks with no Wing gear and still Windsurf and Windfoil. Some days were mostly slogging days too. So I think I just need more time on the water. Right now if I have 11 to 22 mph of wind and for reaching and zig zaging deep downwind and directly upwind for a bit I prefer 1099 FW / 70.3cm F no shims / 400 RW. My pitch feels very comfortable and maneuverable. I have difficulty in the transition turning around durring a flying jibe as there seems to be too much control and not enought stability. I think this will totally go away and as you said be easier with a shorter fuselage after I level up. Cool to hear that you also see a benefit with a longer fuselage in lighter wind. With a longer fuselage to get the same lift -° shim is needed. My hope is that this -° shim will allow for more speed as the two wings are closer alighted to a simmaler angle. I think it will be fun to discover this. The speed to beat is 18.5 mph with the black short fuselage. As I get more time on the water I think I will be able to push the limit on both fuselages so this will be a back and forth thing for a bit of time. Anyway, Happy Wingen! 🙂
