In this part 3, continue to share something I've learned trying to water start a low volume sinker wing board 34L at 75kg weight and 5m wing in ~17 knots of wind.
Good video perspective of doing a SinkBug technique: • Water start a 40L boar...

Yeah, it’s great. You’re flying the wing before you get on the board and that’s the hard part accomplished. When it’s too light I just sit on the board surfer-style until I see a gust coming. It’s such a confidence-builder! Nice video, mate.

Thanks mate, I do that too, just sit on the board when the wind drops, occasionally I spent too much time waiting for the gusts in a stinkbug position...

Thanks for sharing your great videos. I am trying to decide between the FG 34l and 39l for strong wind conditions (35mph+) in the Gorge and want to use the board with Armstrong HA725 foil. My weight is 77kg. Do you think I would be better off with the 39l board in terms of being able to get started with a hand wing size that will not get me overpowered once I am up and flying ?

Great vid Artem! Looks like you're getting plenty of time on the water!

Hi, thanks for the video. I'm trying to choose a sinker for me as well, and use only the stink bug (not the other sinker techniques, which are too tiring) to get it up. I see your 34l board is 4'5'' long, do you think shorter boards are doable as well, or there's a limit of length below which it's too difficult to maintain longitudinal balance kneeled?

There is a sweet spot for the length and volume (thickness), shorter board would have to be thicker (to have the same 34L for example), the thicker the board the more resistance underwater to get it planing. I'd assume the manufactures account for it when designing boards. For my case it's as low as I can go for my local spots/winds. In terms of balance 4'5" is pretty easy to balance underwater.

Great vid! This is the swiss knife of starts for sure, works for every board and condition. I see you leave your upwind foot kind of trailing in the water as you raise the sail.Is this on purpose for more stability?.I put both knees+feet onboard but if it works i will try it :)

Thanks mate! I was just trying to correct the balance in some weird way, don't even know how it worked.

I do the same thing, leaving your foot in the water and your ankle wrapped around the edge of the board gives you control and helps you stick to the board...idk it's just a natural movement for some, but I do remember my instructor mentioning it now to think of it ;)

Great video Artem. I am also 75kgs but coming from 75ltr FG Sup. Do you think it would be better to get the same board as you(34ltrs) or next size up; FG 4’10

…would the 4’10” be too corky at my weight to learn sinker water starting technique?

Thanks mate! With 39L it's definitely easier to get up but the most fun is to ride the smallest board that you're comfortable with. I have 60L and 34L, it covers all conditions for me. (Could have gotten with 50L as my big board at this stage). I'd say if you're fit get the 34L and spend some quality time with it, at least 3-4sesh, otherwise get the 39L should be noticeably easier to get up on it.

As long as it's 15+ knots it's doable with the 5m wing, ~20 knots 3.5-4m wing.
