I'm trying to first balance the board without foil and wing - not much wind right now anyway here. I like this technique much better (more stability) than the knee variant, but I start from a sitting position. Sometimes I manage to balance it for like 5s, but I still struggle to get into my front foot strap...75l & 90kg

Yeh, that's pretty darn hard at your weight and that tiny board. And not really necessary. Motion gives you a big advantage over static balancing. Get a tow behind a boat or jetski. Even moving 5 mph you can be stable and fly and learn what you need to learn. I'm 230lbs on a 77L Lift board and I could never stand on it stationary. But can fly just fine on it. ;)

Would be good to know riders weight. 55l is hard to sink. Ad choppy water or even wind swell and it gets even harder.

What’s the wind strength?

Hi Rob, it's about 15 - 18 knots in the video. Neal's using a 5m wing. You can read the full feature that this video was used as a visual aid for here: magazine.wingsurfworld.com/issue-02/technique-deep-waterstart/ In it Neal says he needed at least 20 knots to learn the technique, otherwise he expended a lot of energy through pumping.
