Thank you for the positive feedback Daniel. We know there isn't a "perfect" class B van out there but it has been perfect for us. We would be sitting on the couch arguing with each other over politics or what channel to watch if we hadn't bought the Revel. (kidding...kinda). It has brought us so much joy. I"m glad you enjoyed it as well. xo

I'm so happy you take the time to get creative with us and share your thoughts. Last night I told Jim, ""You know the hardest part of editing this one is we couldn't be as creative as we normally are?" We have been considering the Revel but I have concerns regarding storage and usefulness of the garage area, outside of storing our bikes. Jason really seems like a great person from the interactions we have had with him. The GLSS is extremely well built and we are so glad that we got it. Has made a world of difference in our van in the few weeks that we have had it installed. The GLSS also has a pull out for the bikes plus the new bed risers... tons of options now. :). Best of luck on your decision and keep us updated. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks Peg. I'm glad you found this useful. Our number one piece of advice when purchasing something like this is to step away from the computer and pictures and step inside to get a feel for it. As soon as we stepped into the Revel we knew it was what we wanted. I was hard set on a Airstream Interstate or Coachman Galleria with their "All season" options but the Revel won us over with its ruggedness. It's not perfect, but it's a close as we could get. Thank you for watching and leaving those kind words! 😁

Hi Guys! We've had it for just over a week now and and sit and wonder how we survived without it. It would have taken years for us to get around to making something even close to that. My idea was some Costco ottomans glued to the floor or something. The bins were really becoming a pain as we added more stuff and well, Jim would just throw stuff back there and it caused a little frustration. When we waited for the Northern Lights and watched a movie Jim looked up at the bottom of the bed and said "Do you know what would be really cool up there?" I said "Glow in the dark stars?" 😂 It's going to be great for cold nights, rainy days. Love you both so much and hope you're staying safe. Oh, and the hiking trails up here? TOTAL INSANITY. We avoid them like all this blows over, it's still easy to find a quiet spot in our municipality but Alaskans are getting stir crazy. It's like they discovered what it's like to live here again. Most people are driving to places like Beluga Point or Earthquake Park and just sitting in their cars to avoid the negative impacts this time of year brings to mental health. Give Maggie kisses. xoxox

@@WingsandWheelsAlaska Also, remember, if you add that front bumper and bigger suspension, your tow rating will go down given that extra weight. So, if you are thinking about towing a trailer with your cycles, may want to stay at a tow max of 2500- 3000lbs. Check that Gross COMBINED weight rating. The tow ratings are not really the key number. Last point, your mpg will really go down when you tow--has a dollar impact, but, maybe, more importantly, your range will decline significantly. You may go down to 10mpg... Meanwhile, have fun out there :-).

Cynthia and Jim, thank you for sharing your wonderful adventure. Your reviews and tips are greatly appreciated; not only are they valuable but they are honest and on-point! Love your dog (we've also got two dogs ourselves, lol). I am a fan of the GLSS system! I understand why Jim wanted the bumper and lighting modification. I think that is a critical system when driving on dark and unknown territory. Between the sound system upgrade and the bumper/lighting mod, I'd recommend getting the latter. You could always use bluetooth sound system in the meantime. :-) Anyway, always stay safe. Stay healthy and happy! God bless.

Hi Cigarmann. Thank you so much. We try to emphasize there's an RV out there for everyone. Have you looked into the Airstream Interstate? They came out with a 19ft version this year. Its very pretty and from the videos looks very well made. If you're torn, go to one of the shows, talk to people who actually own what you're looking at. For example, at one point I wanted a Sportsmobile. After talking to my friend who's been tinkering with one for a few years I decided it probably wouldn't suite our needs. He told me things I would have never found online. Not to mention the money he's put into it has exceeded what we paid. But that's his toy and his pride and joy. In the end that's all that matters right?

Cigarmann a lot of the custom vans are really nice but a few things to watch for is the price point on having it upgraded with all the items you want and secondly was the wait time for many of the places we had been looking at. One of the custom builders we were looking at was around 18 months out. Finding the right match is absolutely the important part :)

I would love to stay in Alaska, as I watch Ice road truckers, and also I love Gold Rush, however I feel a road trip across to US to spend time in the Florida Keys would be my chosen option. I've now subscribed to you your channel so I will follow you guys with interest. Here in the UK we are full lockdown for another three weeks. I was surprised to see people protesting in certain states in the US. I fear for another Covid 19 outbreak which will make things much worse in the long run. Stay safe, and best wishes from Matt. Perhaps Google Leamington Spa UK, so you can see the pretty little Victorian Town I live in. Kind Regards Matt

I just looked it up. Wow, what a beautiful place to live. My mom is from Ayr and Edinburg. I have family in Yorkshire and an Aunt that raises mini ponies (darn I forgot the name of them) in Lincolnshire. The protests are somewhat absurd. I kind of like the attitude Sweden is taking but these idiots in Florida flocking to the beaches make my head spin. Thankfully we have the land space up here to Physically distance and enjoy time outdoors. I also think our Governor knows that if he comes down TOO hard on us the suicide rate will probably supersede the Covid rate because of the long dark winters. As it is, the hiking places that are popular in our area are packed with people and cars. A lot of people just drive and park in their car and watch the ocean etc. Your town is Stunning. It's our dream to travel Europe in the van as soon as Jim retires (not too long now!) We've been looking into ways/cost to transport it etc. That won't be for at least another 3 years but it's fun to dream and plan right?

@@WingsandWheelsAlaskaWow, You've got relatives allover the UK. Yes, I'm not sure I could cope with the long nights and short days of the Alaskan winter. So florida for me at that time of year. We announced the start of a vaccine testing program in Oxford University Hospital this coming Thursday, so lets hope they make swift progress in the Clinical trial. You must definitely come to Europe in your van. It is the ideal size because the roads are much smaller in historical Europe. There are so many great countries to visit in relatively easy reach. you could easily visit most of Europe and the UK in six to twelve months. I did a bit of research as I will have to live outside the UK for a year, and then I can bring my Revel ( When I buy one ) back to Europe. I have friends living in France, Spain, and Croatia, so I would bring my van back into Belgium after spending six months in the US, and then stay in Europe for six months. This would mean I could bring my van back Import Duty and Tax free which would save 25%. Anyway, I must go and do some gardening in Lock down UK. Take a look at this link, as a family have already done your future planned trip to Europe. Kind Regards Matt x winnebagolife.com/2019/09/how-to-ship-a-revel

Other than the fixed shower and toilet that you really wanted it pretty much checks all the boxes and everything else you’re upgrading your revel to.If you had both of them side-by-side which one would you pick? Items that comes stock on the Storyteller. 1.Lifted fox suspension 2.Havelock wool 3.Lounge area 4.Air conditioning 5.Volta system 6.More storage space. 7.Heavy duty walk on roof rack. 8. Ability to run off grid for a week. 9. Auto recharge. 10. Step/shower/ice chest. 11. work table. 12. Muffler in stock location. 13. Air compressor. 14. light bar. 15. Quietest/warmest van on the market. To me, the fact that they install the havlock wool before Assembly is huge to me. But I would love to hear your opinion?
@WingsandWheelsAlaska
@WingsandWheelsAlaska 4 жыл бұрын
We haven’t personally gone inside a storyteller yet so this opinion is based simply on videos that we have seen. We like several aspects of it but two items are what make us not a fan. One is the bed setup. We prefer having the bed lift so we don’t have to set it up everyday. Just simply raise or lower and you are set. The other item is the bathroom. We absolutely love having the permanent bathroom and that for us is a deal breaker. Who knows maybe one day we will take a look inside one and that could change our opinions but for now it would be a hard no due to the things we like about the revel. The rest of the stuff can be upgraded and still be below the list price of the storyteller. Again, our opinion could change when we do see one in person :)

The Boldt is a pretty nice van also! We had that one on our short list but the clearance was too low. If they create a mix of the two vans that would be perfect... Well I guess they kinda are trying with the 2021 Revel now with the lithium system. Stay safe and good luck on your decision.

Getting ready to make the plunge and order GLSS and Havland insulation because of you two!- wondering if you have any woulda/shoulda/ wanna comments on either product? .... bed risers, end doors cargo tray etc.... I think you said 2 bundles of wool will work for my Alaskan Revel..? So grateful to you both for shortening my learning curve!!

Hi Candy, end doors are a must we do have those and it makes getting to those commonly used items much easier. We did not do risers only because we like having the full length of the bed 😂. 2 bundles of wool is plenty. We don’t use the lounge as much as we thought we would only because of the extra cushions to carry around it is comfortable but just not practical for us.

Great review and info. I’d love to hear about the bed and the bed upgrade you mentioned. You mentioned the black covered foam but not sure what it is exactly. Also you mentioned a wool insulation upgrade. Was that just the clothing you are wearing or did you actually upgrade the insulation in the van.
@WingsandWheelsAlaska
@WingsandWheelsAlaska 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Corey. We replaced the stock mattress with a full size memory foam mattress that we cut ourselves. We did a video on doing that upgrade. We did reinsulate the van with havelock wool. Originally it was a few black foam blocks for insulation in areas of the van so we completed redid it and insulated it ourselves.

Yes! Jim loves the throne. We kinda left out the part that if he needs to enjoy "throne time" the door closes enough to give adequate privacy 😂. The craziness is still crazy up here, actually, even more crazy. All the hiking areas are JAM packed full of people and we don't even stop at them. I've never seen so many Alaskans wanting to be outside! I think we might cover that in a future video. Just ONE of our boroughs here is the the size of Scotland so it's not hard to find a place to escape but people like to congregate. It's a very different world up here than what we are seeing in the South. I think many might have a hard time understanding that. Thank you for being such a great friend. Hang in there girl! xoxo

The problem would be the areas where the wheel wells are. Would be a fantastic mod we would jump on in a heartbeat. We try to keep the most commonly used items closer to the doors so we can reach in and grab them but a slide would be beneficial. I know they have created a slide for between the benches for bikes etc so maybe that is something they will create in the future 🤞. Great idea and I’ll see if Jason with canyonadventurevans has any plans to do this.

Fantastic review of the Revel! I love the addition you made to the back and can see how that will dramatically improve quality of life within the van on those days when it's pouring down rain. It seems to me like your awning doesn't get a whole lot of use as you camp. Is it because the wind activates its retract feature, or is it because it doesn't provide enough covered area? You mentioned getting a new bumper and lift kit. This brings up an interesting question. We've all seen when you got stuck in the snow because it was too deep and Traction Control is apparently not something you want to have on in such situations. Have you ever had a "bottom out" occur? Have you ever had a "high center" occur? The reason I ask is that your bumper will include a winch, which would allow for speedy recovery in both of those scenarios. Have you had issue with the hill climbing / descent ability with the Revel? Alaska looks like a rather mountainous landscape, and that leads me to question if you've played it safe on more established paths, or if you've decided to take risks and go to more remote locations on roads much less traveled and maintained? Another thing that I haven't seen mentioned, that is a problem here in the Pacific Northwest is scratches along the sides of the vehicle due to dense growth encroaching on the path of travel. Is that an issue in Alaska that you've experienced? Has your pain job handled it well? One more problem with driving paths less traveled is low hanging branches and limbs. Have you had issues with branches hitting the items on top of your Revel? It would seem to me that the A-Post corners would bear the brunt of those impacts. How have they held up? Keep up the great work on your videos and adventures! I can't wait to see where you explore next!
@WingsandWheelsAlaska
@WingsandWheelsAlaska 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian!!! We didn't use the awning much last summer mostly because we didn't have a lot of rain up here, (heavy wildfire year) I like the area that it does cover when it's extended. We've had friends who were tent camping with us come and hang out with us in the rain under it and it worked great for situations like that. Also, I think we kind of forget about it sometimes? That might sound a little silly but when Jim told me he was putting the awning out to see if it still works I thought "oh yeah! We have an awning! " We haven't bottomed out or high centered., yet. I have a feeling Jim wants to Winch to help other people out because we have witnessed a lot of that, especially on our mud flats. Personally I think it's more of a "cosmetic" thing. 😂As for scratches, we have been through some areas that I felt were a little too tight. We have a few scratches but figure that's part of it. We've come across a few low hanging branches, Especially on the Old Alaska Highway, we would either get out and move them or find a way to navigate around them. After awhile our depth perception got better when driving in those conditions. In the beginning I would get out to "spot" Jim through areas like that.He breezes through it now. Last week we were on a narrow logging road and I was driving and I haven't got the touch yet. He'd look up at say "Watch out for that branch!!!" He's a terrible passenger. 😂
@briangreen9677
@briangreen9677 4 жыл бұрын
Wings and Wheels Alaska That’s good to hear that you haven’t had any getting stuck issues. I think the reason I ask is that I have a feeling you’re going to burn through the well trodden paths and eventually pull out a map and ask yourselves, “What do you think it looks like out here?” And off you’ll go down a road that might see five pickups a month. I know I’m crazy enough to drive down them when I’m not in a car. 😂
@WingsandWheelsAlaska
@WingsandWheelsAlaska 4 жыл бұрын
We're totally already doing it. There's an old logging road I used to go up and target practice. I told Jim about it the other day. A lot of bear hunters go back there. There's another road that we have been "dared" to attempt, it's somewhat of a Russian community at the end that doesn't like outsiders so we may hold off on that one for awhile. We were supposed to explore Northern Canada, starting around today actually, and then down into the lower 48. Maybe next summer. 😒
@briangreen9677
@briangreen9677 4 жыл бұрын
@@WingsandWheelsAlaska I know the current issues suck, and we all just kind of have to deal with it. We'll all come out the other side of this thing all the better for it in my humble opinion. The roads far less traveled do have the possibility of danger from those who'd rather us not go that way. There are several such roads here in Washington that are very well known locally for being roads you just don't drive down because there are bad people living out in the woods. So I get it. That said, there are tons of roads where that isn't the case and what can be seen and experienced down them is nothing shy of spectacular! I'm an old fashioned guy, and I prefer to have map books for my travels. That Maps.me APP didn't exist until recently, so offline maps weren't a thing on my phone. Map Books are always on and don't need an internet connection! 😂 The reason I mention this is that you're going to have to let me know when you do manage to do the Washington State leg of this grand tour of yours, and we'll figure out a way for me to hand you off my Washington State Map Book. In it are TONS of amazing things to see and experience that will make your adventures a million times better because most of the stuff in it are things most tourists never even get to see because they are well off the beaten path. You have to WANT to go out of your way to see the cool stuff. Like, did you know that Washington State has ONE wooden covered bridge like those over in New England?!?!? ONE!!! And NO, it's nowhere near ANYTHING! LOL. So, anyway, when it's time for you to explore this State, we'll have to figure out a way for me to hand off my map book so that you can see all the awesome stuff Washington State is hiding from typical tourists! 😃

brad cooke the ones we put in the back doors is the medium transit pouches. Fits perfectly back there! The large is where we keep the tire tools in the front driver door. We really like their products and look forward to getting more at some point :)

Wings and Wheels Alaska - Sweet, thanks. I’ve always felt that the netting in those doors pouches was a little weak so I don’t use them much. This’ll make them good to go.

What kind of dual sport bikes are you riding? That would be a fun side video.

We plan to show them this summer. Jim has a BMW 1200GS Adventure. I have a Honda Africa Twin. Great question :)

I noticed that you did not have a lot of discussion about the shower and using it. Do you use it frequently? A lot of great storage in side the shower/toilet and anticipate a lot of emptying of stored bins before you can use it each time.

Yes we do use it regularly. We had a whole video on it and in one of our recent videos we talk about it also. The way we have the shower setup makes it easy to pull stuff out and put it back. We also use the outdoor shower which is even easier if we are out in the middle of nature 😂

Hi Jason, These are the stock shades that came with our van. Several companies have similar ones. Take a look at overlandgearguy.com if you are looking for ideas.

Enjoy your honest videos guys! Keep it up. Question for you , since traveling to sub zero temperatures with the revel did you have any issues with the gray tank freezing up when it came time to empty it? I’m looking at purchasing a revel and living in it solo and traveling to cold weather climates, take care

Hello! During the winter we add RV antifreeze to both the grey tank and the cassette toilet to keep from freezing at subzero temps. We have had no issues all winter long. Is it necessary? We don’t want to test it to find out and risk damage but it has worked. Hope you are doing well.

We did change the stock mattress but we absolutely love the bed. We have talked about it in several previous videos. The Lounge system in the back makes it even more useful for us now :). Thank you for watching!
