Do you have to leave all firearms at home in order to enter Canada?
@WingsandWheelsAlaska4 күн бұрын
There is a process you can go through but we travel without if we are entering Canada (we left ours in Fairbanks with a friend during this trip). Just a big hassle for a very short time passing through.

Hi Cynthia and Jim! I think I told you that my daughter and I flew to Anchorage last summer. We were going to drive up this summer, but stayed home to take care of our property (storms, wind, trees down, etc). We did get some amazing Northern Lights in St Paul, though! Next summer we are considering driving to Fairbanks. It's the last item on my bucket list!!! Are you guys doing any future meet ups? Driving on frozen lakes is so much fun. My youngest just got her permit, so as soon as it snows, we will go out to a dark empty parking lot, and learn how to do donuts ! I tell my kids that it's a lot like skiing. Controlled skids, and trusting yourself on ice. Hope you guys had a great summer! Best, Brenda

Great video! I wonder if you would give your perspective on rig selection for a 10 week trip to and through Alaska (from Colorado). Due to budget of about $65k, I'm debating between a used F350 gas pickup with a truck camper or an F150 towing a TAB 400 by NuCamp. We'd want to drive the Dempster, Top of the World Highway, etc and boondock as much as possible. I'm concerned that towing a trailer will be very limiting in our quest to find spots with beautiful solitude. Would you be willing to share your thoughts? Thanks!
@WingsandWheelsAlaska4 күн бұрын
Personally, we would always recommend a camper over towing on a trip like that unless you were dropping the camper near the beginning and then tent camping or hoteling the majority of the route. Pulling a trailer along the remote dirt roads has a lot of risk involved.

Are you required to have chains on your tires until a certain date? Do you think the road would be clear of heavy snow and ice in April?
@WingsandWheelsAlaska4 күн бұрын
No we do not have a requirement for chains. April is breakup so that is completely hit or miss weather and snow wise.

I wouldn't say sitting in a chair in a climate controlled environment with no effects of the weather is an "adventure" to drive up to Tuktoyaktuk. People doing it on motorcycles and bikes is an adventure.

We did adventure motorcycles for 20 years. No less of an adventure in a van than on the bikes. We just don’t need to sleep in a tent anymore and it’s a bit safer to enjoy the scenery :)

I see the Video was posted in Oct, I didn't notice however when the trip happened? Im going to making this Journey this year and I am still weighing out what time frame to go (Aug or Early September). PS. What is the song called that starts at 19.30
@WingsandWheelsAlaska4 күн бұрын
Usually we do this trip in June or July. August will be iffy weather and September more risk for bad weather and snow but you never know it changes year to year.
@corblom117 ай бұрын
Good idea, only concern I could have is that the wool may retain moisture where as the closed cell foam had no ability to do that. Also be careful not to over stuff and compress the wool. The insulating value is maintained by the air that is trapped in it. So you need air pockets in it. Solid wool is not as good as loose wool. So try to pull it back and let it fill the void loosely. Avoid using it where it will collect moisture. Don't want that beautiful van to rust from the inside.

We did check after the first winter but no issues. Good idea for this spring to post an update after 4 years of the insulation job ❤️

Why anyone buys German I'll never understand. Who designs an air filter housing to use screws? 3 latches is what everyone else uses. And why is that cabin air filter so difficult to remove and install? Germans have to be the worst engineers on the planet. It must be true that the US took all the best German engineers after WWII.
