I didn't know the Closed Sicilian could be so sharp. This video really opened my mind to the possibilities. Thanks!!!!! I would love to learn more from GM Krasenkow about this system.

So what did you guys think of GM Michal Krasenkow? Would you guys be willing to buy a 2 hour chess video he would make for ~$15? Please give HONEST and POLITE feedback. Thanks

agreed - i like to mix it up with the closed sicilian sometimes to avoid the main line mess in the sicilian. cheers!

I gained over 100 rating points back in my high school days playing the Closed Sicilian as White and the Lasker (or Sveshnikov) Sicilian as Black. I didn't play Nh3, though, I was playing f4 and then Nf3. Most players didn't know how to defend, and I'd get in f5 and attack kingside. At the engine level, it's not a good opening, but against anyone rated under 2200, it can be quite effective. Just not falling into traps playing against open Sicilian lines made a big difference.

Great video! Thank you. Watching this the night before the last round of the Hawaii Open is what helped me defeat my higher-rated opponent in 26 moves and win the tournament.

The key move in the opening as presented in the video is Nh3 by white. This allows for all the favorable tactics shown.

Krasenkow is fantastic,i read something that he wrote for a magazine and he said that he abandoned e4 when he was becaming older because he always had some troubles with the sicilian and he didn´t wanted to learn all the variations(dragon,sveshnikov...).He works very hardly in his chess but he had some bad luck in the past.Despite being a top 10 in the world at some moment, the invitatios to super tournaments didn´t arrive and he had to play in a lot of opens that cost him about 100 Elo points.

Being an E4 player myself, I've been using the Sozin, Fischer-Sozin attack, which work just fine, I think I'll try this next time against the Sicilian just to expand my knowledge. I like GM Krasenkow's explanation, very clear and concise, I don't like too much detail, like in some of the other videos on YT, cuz they often seem to digress from whats going on. I don't live in the US and am very busy, otherwise I would order the video. $15 for a good 2 hr video is pretty reasonable. thanks.

there is lots of analysis and variations...which I find rather overwhelming, but perhaps it's trying to squeeze too much information into a youtube video; I have found it easier to learn if the main responses of a variation is mentioned 1st as an overview, and then showing/explaining the inferior replies 1st, before moving onto the main best reply last (in terms of tactical shots, positional strengths/weaknesses, strategic endgame considerations, etc) ...yes, I would buy

I liked the commentary in this video, it was, as some others have mentioned easier to understand despite the accent. However, I don't think I would pay 15 dollars, even for a 2 hour video, because there is already a large amount of free material on youtube, as well as many other sources. I understand the problem of trying to make money through chess, but perhaps there is something missing in the formula, which would motivate more people into buying these vids. Find that missing ingredient!

I thought this was a great video. I found the lines given to be concise and revealing without having to many branch variations. The main ideas were given. I might at e4 and hope someone plays into the Sicilian now. Thanks for the excellent introduction.

when my opponent starts as white with king's pawn to e4, and I respond as black with Sicilian pawn to c5, and then white responds with queen's side knight to c3 (closed Sicilian), is there a specific initial Sicilian black defense version (? a6 O'Kelly, ? d6 Najdorf, ? e6 French, ? queen side knight to c6, ? king side knight to f6, ? other) that works best against white's closed Sicilian (in order for me to know what best 2nd move I should make as black) ? thank you for all you have done for the chess community!
