The weight of my 38mm previous version is 1420gr total. My new D45 is 646 + 801 = 1447gr total which is an awesome improvement considering the 46+54 rims compared to 38 FR. The 38 was too heavy compared to the 1.2kg competitions. Will be installing them with 25 front + 28 rear tomorrow.

Good review sir. Good luck on Haute Route! As a wheelbuilder, I always preferred crossing spokes to touch either over or under the trailing spokes depending on lacing. Always thought they braced one another laterally a bit better. Otherwise you kind of end up with a radially laced rim. Just my opinion of course. I know lots of brands don't contact eachother at the cross.

Great video Jasper! I will purchase a set tomorrow but Im still torn between d33 or d45. How does d33 perform during climb? Is there a big difference in climbing performance from other hyper wheelsets you had before? Hope you can answer this mate, it will help me decide. Thank you!
@jasperverkuijl2 жыл бұрын
Hey man, The d33 will be lighter (total weight) and lighter rim so less moment of inertia. (See more about that on my review of the “old” hypers) For climbing the 33 will be the best. Overall the 45 will be a very good choice. For me there was a year between the climbing event with the old hyper 50’s and the new hyper 33. I’d have to test them side by side to notice the difference tbh

great honest review. i used to think the same about Winspace and Lun wheels. i bought a pair of disc 50 hypers in November 2021. 1st impressions were so great that in Jan 2022 ordered a second pair. well, my 1st pair never held air for more than 3 days in the front wheel. i blamed it on other possible issues. after i received my second set, i noticed the same thing . front wheel not holding air for more than 2 or 3 days. i tried 3 different brand of tires with the same result. i contacted Winspace and they requested serial numbers and the likes. 3 weeks went by and no feedback from Winspace. i contacted them again and they recommended i replace the valve stem. i tried that and no improvement. after another 2 weeks of emails with Winspace they offered a $200 credit due to the fact that the only solution they could come up with was for me to use the front wheels with inner tubes. i agreed to it. it has been more than 3 weeks now and no refund and no communication from Winspace. i am assuming i have been taken by another chinese manufacturer like many people have. do not be fooled by all the great reviews. people are getting paid to post them.

Jasper, I think I might need some help 😀. The last two years I've been building bikes from used frames and selling them for profit - I've now reached a point where I want to upgrade to a good carbon wheelset, but I can't decide whether to go rim or disc. The basic principle is to keep the wheels long term while trading the rest of the bike for profit. I live in an area with steep hills and I'm not the lightest - 75 kg, so I'm thinking it's better to go disc for the longevity of the rims? The only thing I'm afraid of is the maintenance cost. Also, what would you pick as the best VALUE wheelset? 2023 Hypers?
@jasperverkuijl Жыл бұрын
Hey dude. Since the industry is pretty much forcing all cyclist to discbrakes, the answer is easy, discs. Rim brake bike parts will come unavailable at some point and they are worthless too because nobody wants it anymore. Same reason I built up my Winspace SLC climbing bike with disc groupset. Best value for money is probably still the “old” hypers but for a small bit extra you will have wider rims which suit wide tires and low tire pressure better so I’d still go for the 2023 hypers 👌🏻 Steep hills is go for the low rim like i have in this video. The hub parts are all replaceable so you can maintain it forever and keep riding them a long time! Let me know what you decide!👍🏻👍🏻
@Davido00132 жыл бұрын
Hi! 🙂 Maybe u could help to decide what brand and which carbon wheels should I get? My rides are ussualy 30-100km with 100-400 meters of total climbs, so pretty flat. I think I should get around 45-50mm deep wheels? I could buy new zipp 303s from local shop for around 700 EU, or it would worth to spend around 1170 eu for Windpace hyper wheels? Or maybe something else? Also prefer louder hub sound as there where i live many pedestrians walking on bike paths and i dont like bells 🙂

Wider internal rim width doesn’t make a tire more aero right?!? It’s just wider so higher cda (surface)
@jasperverkuijl2 жыл бұрын
the wheel/tire combination will get more aero because the transition from wheel to tire is more smooth (when they are similar with). So the surface may go up but the drag coefficient will go down making the drag go down. If you'd use a very narrow tire, you're better off with a narrow rim (like the old hypers). but the wider tire gives less rolilng resistance so in the end the wider rims with wider tires are probably faster on the normal road and the skinny tires with skinny rims are faster on perfect smooth indoor track e.g.
