Winter camping in a hot tent during a snowstorm. I finally get out to my permanent hot tent in the woods and get to finally try out my new Winnerwell Nomad wood stove

Hey, thanks for making these video's, They are really helpful as I am about to build a very similar setup in northern Maine. I have several specific questions for you: 1. What is the spacing of your platform 2x joist framing? 2. It looks like you have left your tent up for a while...has it been up for a year? I understand that it is normal for mold to grow and that there are ways of cleaning it. Have you considered placing a ridge pole and a tarp 2 or 3 feet above the top of the tent to keep rain and snow off of it...and still allow it to dry out? 3. I don't know if you have seen any of Martin Doolaard's KZbin video's, he recently left his bell tent for vacation and it collapsed under snow load while he was away. 3. I am trying to figure out if the Nomad medium will do or whether I should go with the large...judging by your fortuitously posted recent video, it looks like the large is the way to go. 4. With that in mind, how many times over the course of a cold night (below 0 F) do you have to restoke (I notice that you have a Mr. Heat, so maybe you don't burn wood all night? 5. Have you had any carbon monoxide build up issues? I see that Winnerwell is introducing a stove with an outside air intake. Seems kind of unecessary as they (and others) have been making intake free stove for a long time. Anyhow, thaks again, I appreciate your efforts! Adam

When building the platform just find some plans for building a backyard deck, that is what I did. My tent has been up for more than a year now, there is a small amount of mould on the outside. I've have seen some reports of tents collapsing under snow load, I think it has to do with the quality of the tent, if the centre post is strong enough it shouldn't be a problem, I have had a foot of heavy snow on my tent before. As far as sizing a wood stove I would always go with a larger stove. I can go for three hours at night before having to stoke it, it helps to have a good bed of coals before going to bed, I always take a carbon dioxide detector with me, a wood stove requires quite a lot of air to burn wood, there is always fresh air coming into the tent.

Great videos. Some questions about your Winnerwell. Do you use the spark arrestor? How often do you need to clear it? I have a large Winnerwell Woodlander that uses the same 3.5" pipes, and the spark arrestor gets clogged up after ~ 4 hours burn time, even when using "good" wood.

I have never had problems with the spark arrestor plugging up, the wood I burn is dry hard wood, the problem with it plugging up is almost always with the type of wood you are burning.
