Don't give up on your self. Just because you may not be able to hike twenty miles anymore, doesn't mean you can't find a campsite somewhere, and stay close to camp. I am 70, diabetic, and arthritic as hell myself. Six ankle fusion surgeries and just had back surgery last January. Now one of my hips is acting up. Seems like I have lost more muscle than I ever had, but am prepping for a two to four week camping trip here in April. Yes, I know. There comes a time when we all have to quit playing our Dan'l Boone childhood fantasies though. I continue to want to explore and experience everything around me in spite of my disabilities. It will be a sad day indeed, when my disability turns into inability.

I'm grateful for you sharing your experiences with everyone. Safety and mental health can be difficult balances some days and you have thoughtfully and skillfully explained so many very helpful tips in ways that don't scare everyone. (that can be a real challenge sometimes!) Relocating when your gut tells you to is absolutely key! I spend a fair amount of extended time alone on bicycle, and one of the safety things I always do after using an ATM is I move to a location where I can clearly see I'm on camera. I've only had one instance of feeling unsafe, but that's all it took for me to add this small routine any time my spidey-sense activates. Whether in car or on bike. I can go near the front entrance of the bank, or a gas station, C-store, whatever, as long as the outdoor cameras are visible (and hopefully working). Like many others, I started enjoying your adventures from Foresty's channel and love learning as I prepare for my own upcoming extended adventures. Stay safe and enjoy your path!

"Don't gaslight yourself" is SO important! Have you read the book "The Gift of Fear"? Basically the same message. Trust your instincts. You don't need to be "nice" to someone if you feel danger.
