I live in Michigan and just put the Vredestein Winter trac pro on the stock 21” wheels of my new X5 m50i, and they are absolutely transformative. They replaced my stock runflat summer Perelli‘s. I too am very brand loyal and was very hesitant, but at the time they were the only winter tires in my stock wheel sizes, so I pulled the trigger, and couldn’t be happier. Fantastic ride quality, performance, low noise, and tremendous grip. I would recommend them to anyone.

@TedwardDrives

for surface rust, adding a hydrophobic layer or wax or if you spend big money, ceramic coat helps. Wash the the car regularly and don't forget to wash the undercarriage. Some folks swear by krown coatings which is like oiling every surface under the car. I've never used it but I've heard mixed responses. You can't prevent it 100% but you can slow it down

100% would get the car undercoated. Very disappointing to see cars that were driven in winter and not oil sprayed. Most OEM’s do really bad factory uncoating and everything underneath gets rusty and rots. Also have to make sure the body is sealed, fill in all paint chips and then wax the car. You’re car will be essentially sealed from water and salt, do this and you’re cars body will last a lot longer.

Here in Germany most of the people use Wax, in our Garage we used LiquiMoly which worked great, we used like 4 Cans (1l per Can with Spraygun) to get into all small Cracks, Doors,.. So if your car is pretty new its a good thing, but dont use it without really cleaning your car, because you will get that Salt Stuck between Wax and Body and it will hurt more than it helps. I was some people use old Engine Oil on like Unimogs but what i saw is that it ruins more than it helps. I even saw some guys use like a Bodycoat, similar to like a rubercoat. Its drying over time and it will be a really good protection, but if something will get between coat and body again, it will rust underneath.

Don't get Dunlop WinterMaxx. Have them on my 2011 Mustang, scariest tire I've ever driven on. Its like driving on bald tires. They work great in the snow, but awful in the wet. I will go up hill sideways somedays in the rain. It was the only winter tire left in stock in my size so I'm stuck with it. I've actually learned they try not to sell them in areas of high rain because of just how bad they are in the wet.
