My issue with this quote unquote energy crisis is that these companies had 10 years to fix the energy grid and prepare for the next freezing weather catastrophe. *This should never have happened.* Companies should have set aside money in the budget to make improvements every year until it met the freezing winter standards. They had TEN YEARS to make modifications! *This mess is ridiculous!!*

@allendean98074 жыл бұрын
Infrastructure on this scale will never be done by for profit corporations. It will have to be a federal project. And as such, must focus on renewables working along side current means. Shell released a statement saying we reached peak potential for oil and gas in 2019. That means, what’s left is all that’s left. So, renewables are a fact of life, and the United States have the opportunity to lead the world, if they have the spine, and the vision. Massive winter storms? Most likely nothing by itself will help. But, if we had proper storage media in homes, a huge push toward solar, and regulations mandating weatherizing power grids, things might have been different in so many states suffering right now....
@allendean98074 жыл бұрын
@@mikeekim242 that depends upon supply and demand. If there was a national push for products like Tesla roofing, demand would massively decrease, making costs much cheaper. Add to this storage mediums to back up homes in such emergencies, and you have a nation of self sufficiency- something so many in our country are all for. Imagine a nation with country wide broadband for all. Renewables subsidized to the point everyone can afford to make their own power and store it on site? It’s doable. The tech is here. Between starlight, Tesla roofs and Tesla battery power packs, all the government will need to do at this point is invest. Simple.
@mikeekim2424 жыл бұрын
@@allendean9807 "subsidized" That's a word that means somebody will suffer. The government never pays for anything, we do. Those Tesla roofs are cool, but solar isn't affordable, or reliable enough yet. Most likely it will be another 30 years before we see this kind of weather in Texas again, so it would be cheaper to have a fireplace installed. You do understand part of the problem was the amount of wind power we have in Texas, and that those wind turbines failed? and with all the cloud cover we've had this week, and that solar would not be enough to keep a house warm for a week? A fifty thousand dollar roof can't change those facts. I've been in construction for over 36 years believe me when I say I would love be able to live off grid and have a Tesla 1 ton truck that can haul several tons around for hundreds of miles each day, but we're just not there yet, and it's certainly not affordable.

@@robertbaker6277 all transformers are insulated ,but to what degree depends upon monetary factors. The high demand of electricity when the storm hit set off a cascading failure of events for electrical output. The transformers failed when they should have been able to handle the load. Age, environment, maintenance are all factors for transformer failure but ultimately Texans will never know because their electrical grid is not under Federal guidelines & regulations. They could have been packing the transformers with Crisco and sunflower seeds and nobody would have been none the wiser.
