I met a old lady four years back in Canada who is from Karnataka. She said she is originally from a place where currently in Pakistan and she was 7 at the time of partition. She added, it’s still in her mind how they trashed her family and thrown them out of their town following all Hindus in the area yelling shouting and throwing things at them saying “leave from here other wise we will kill you”. She said they somehow managed to come to india by leaving everything behind and got to approach to her aunt(father’s sister) who was in Karnataka and the life went on from there. We never knew anything as a child until we grow up about all such worse things happened in the name of British rule and partition. Never discussed or never in public notice about these things. even though if we come to know through media like this and rarely encounter such people with their stories like me, we still don’t feel the reality of it. One thing that stood out to me however was that everyone may have gotten along if it wasn't for one religion always insisting everything be THEIR WAY! None of the religions of Bharat believe in having their way as the only way, because they are dharmic in nature which means they fundamentally believe that everyone has the right to find their own way to God. It's abrahamic religions such as Christianity and Islam which are fascist by nature because they believe only their God is the only God, which has caused so much bloodshed and chaos in Bharat and split it into two, because they refused to live as one nation with the hindus because they see them as kaffirs.

My understanding, from what I've read, is that Jinnah and the Muslim League were primarily responsible. "From the early years of the 20th century onward, a deep divide developed between Hindus and Muslims. This was not the least caused by a marginalisation of the latter in public life. Hindus held most of the jobs in the lower branches of civil administration and in education, they were, comparatively, streets ahead. Part of the responsibility for this lay with the Muslims themselves for their leadership, lost in nostalgia, failed to modernise."

The saffron extremists come out and tell on yallself. Just as Hindus and Sikhs were attacked, so were Muslims. Don’t try to “well ours was worse”. Both sides went through hell. Please acknowledge the suffering of all peoples in India during partition.

Taneja ji should think with depth on why people of different religions except Islam are able to coexist peacefully. And only when the so called religion of peace enters any community, that the fights, violence, etc begins. This will help him shed his Wokism.

"Incited by the British divide and rule policies..." We all know that the British exacerbated communal divisions in India. But let's not pretend that they're the only ones responsible. They didn't demand partition, nor did they riot for it. They never cast a single vote for the AIML. Partition happened because one community of Indians insist it happen. To place all the blame on the British is to deny the agency of those who betrayed India during its most pressing hour.

All the muslim constituencies of that time voted for an Islamic state. And despite claiming their separate Islamic country, all of them didn't leave Hindustan and now their population has risen again. Another partition will happen in the future!

People saying its because muslim wanted a separate country not exactly if u forgot our oppressors were British they made the divide and rule policy to divide us and they truly did that they made us think that our religion was superior and stuff and every religion wanted more for them and hence Mohammed ali jinnah also got affected by it and this happened

Not to undermine anyone’s pain but these stories are not as grim as some others. At-least, they paved their way to India safe. However, if we really want to know the real pain, ask any elderly person who migrated from the province of (undivided) Punjab which was sliced in half & witnessed the bloodiest massacres of Hindus & Sikhs: much worse than Nazi camps. Every migrated Hindu/Punjabi & Sikh family who were uprooted overnight had much to loose physically, mentally & financially and the aftermath (emotionally) is much worse. WION should do more such interviews & capture eyewitness accounts before we loose all our elderly people & no one is left to share their stories.

According to you, divide and rule is found out by Britain. But it is wrong. In India we were (are) divided on the basis of caste. Britain found it easy to use this divisional culture to achieve their goals. We used caste, they used religion, and that too on Muslims' demand. But the cruelty is that, Muslims got a new Muslim country, still India allowed Muslim personal law in India, instead of a common civil code based on gender equality.
