Oh its WORSE, because right now you can see them because the render range was upped to 50km. If it isn't then you don't even see the projectile. No flash, no warning. Just massive hull breaches and no way to know what happened

If that is correct that is super dirty.... AND I LOVE IT Edit: Will the guns themselves fire at things out of your own render distance? I would assume so because grids dont have a render distance, only players do, right?

@@JimBimBum Well there isn't a practical limit but once you got about a dozen indivual control instances each tracking a dozen targets the overhead can start to stack. That being said, if you watch the latest vid they don't do too poorly agains groups of targets

Imagine an enemy fleet jumping on its high orbit with an assault carrier, some destroyers, some frigates and a battlecruiser. The assault carriers then starts to deploy fighters squads and drop ships to invade the planet (and maybe dropping an auto outpost module too for quick base deploying/territory assurance) while the others ships just start get incoming by those planetary defense cannons, successfully attracting their attention. To support the attack, the battlecruiser starts to launch a volley of k-missiles, some with decoys, some with warheads, some with low level nukes targeting the cannon sites. Meanwhile the planetary forces scrambles their orbital fighters docked on the surface and the bigger ships stationed at some orbital stations trying to repel the invaders, but will take a while to arrive. You give me ideas, man! Ideas! Now I need a good computer to not fry while doing such a feat!

Though that said... it still wouldn't compare to one of the large battles in Eve. one of the most famous being "The Bloodbath of B-R5RB" 100's titans, 1000s of support battleships, escorts, and such. Over the course of 21 hours, 7,500 players fought an all-out war for control of the B-R5RB star system. in the end Nearly 11 trillion ISK worth of ships was destroyed - or about 1/3ed of a Million USD real cash value, worth of equipment.

50 km might be a wee bit too powerful, even for AODs like this. Personally I’d go for 15 to 25, but hey, they’re your weapons of mass destruction, not mine.

Well, you are correct about one thing about the 25km range. These guns have a travel speeds of 5km/s. At the tail end of their range the projectile will have been in flight for a dozen seconds. Any changes in target velocity will result in a miss. Not only in 25km do you get within the hammer lock of the railgun (point where you can't feasibly move fast enough to dodge the shot) but you just get into range of the AWE coil guns. And coil guns are nasty because they are essentially hitscan weapons. That means as soon as you get within 25km, now the secondary batteries activate and you can't dodge their shots anymore.

Well there is multiple ways I see it could be done. The easiest is just to change velocity. The shells take a dozen seconds to travel there and it's amongst the faster projectiles. So by moving you can mostly avoid being shot though it also drastically slows your approach. Taking out the watchtower satellites and probes can blind the array as they are the ones actually detecting and tracking the targets. By landing between the defense stations you can be pretty safe as the guns will neither see or be able to target you, until you come into the range of a watchtower that is. If you want to take out the array the approach will become harder and harder as you get closer but it will become vastly more problematic starting at 25km and Closer because that is when the coilguns get in range. Why is that an issue? Because coilguns are HITSCAN weapons so as soon as you break 25km you will start to get maulled by projectiles you can't evade. So at this point if you want to assault it your best bet is to throw a metric ton of shit in front of you that the railguns will need to deal with (still need to be big enough so that the script does not consider them debris). Once you get within 10km it's like fighting anything else except the railguns are now capable of self targeting and also you have about 2 seconds to avoid them and the base is now probably firing at you with custom missiles, regular missiles and every odd caliber under the sun.

@@romain5967 scripts, that is how. AI aimed turrets limit it to a max of 10km but the travel range is much higher. However this is an extreme range where normally you cannot get any information on a target that would allow you to guide a shot in... So here I made use of watchtower satellites and sensor probes, equiped with AWE radars to detect the target. They are equiped with Artemis as well, and as a result connect and transmit on the antenna network. The signal bounces from the watchtowers to a ground station via antenna then bounces to the planetary defense grid via laser antennas. The defense grid now obtains the live data on the target 50km away and can open fire. It only works for targets not altering their course because it can take upward of 10 seconds for the projectile to reach the target. Also unless you have a render range of 50km you won't actually see the projectiles.

@@mobiuscoreindustries this is beautiful, this is exactly the kind of engineering I love about space engineers, I'm making a torpedo system that replicates alot of the things you see torpedo's doing in the expanse, like defensive missiles, the same range, autoloaders, backwards launching, different salvoing modes and programming them to do different things etc, I don't understand how few people get into player made weapons, the things you can do is just infinitely cooler than any turret spam

Using the sensor probes was a lot of fun to set up; using Whip's "SHART" script helped quite a bit for forward bases that were using "passive" antennas to transmit/receive data.

6 Railgun in a what 50m radius? Ok here is my sci-fi defense grid will be 1. A Large number of sensor satellite to a distance of 1 light minute 2. A FTL dampening field ready to be online to prevent ship from jumping away 3. A Large number of Hunter Killer Stealth Satellite moving in random pattern just in case 4. Hide my Planetary Defense under a stealth field. Should be enough anyway that idea i took from expeditionary force by Craig Alanson also Amazing work you did.

when its not absolutely fucked by the recent API changes. Turret code is isolated from everything else because its too big to fit either mainframe variants, the guns don't fire on their own unless you force them to, the gun angles just don't want to work and I am fairly certain the combat autopilot just makes you spin. That being said, we ARE looking for more ever more testers/users that can brave the bullshit

Well if you fly evasively they are pretty easy to dodge. Deadly re entry would mean you would need to slow down when closer to the atmosphere which means more likelyhood of getting hit, and once within 25km coilguns are in range and these MF are basically impossible to dodge.

This would also require a detection grid as 50K is beyond anything but active antenna range. Ships not broadcasting would be effectively invisible otherwise.

That is what is being done here. Sentry satellites with an autonomous detection radius of 10km (which is your extreme end of range for mod weapons with automated targeting, at least for any of the sensibly balanced mods) relay data to broadcast station in low orbit which connects to the ground artillery. Direct fire at these distances is quite literally impossible otherwise.

bruh, wtf, how to do survive that, thats likely firing from over 75km, 50km at least, thats INSANE and with that damage the defensive, just imagine that if at that range it misses by like 20-30m at most at about 60km, imagine when firing at like 5km or so, keep in mind the longest you can fire a gun from in the base game is a railgun at 2km, and this is literally doing suppresive fire to capital ships, or they warp away or they die

@ignaciocorreaalvano648 tbh it is very specifically a system that has to rely on either some extremely skewed server settings or (in the case here) relay targeting where another grid is spotting the target for the system to take aim at. It also need modded weapons that are compatible with such capabilities. Railguns and kingsword from the AWE pack have the capability for 50km travel distance and with high muzzle velocity they only need to spend a dozen seconds of flight to hit the target. Still makes it basically impossible to nail something that is accelerating and changing direction but anything not accelerating is going to have a bad time. One of the things I pair with such systems (in the theoretical, I would be fileding them) are guided missiles and/or drone swarm interceptor tied to a speedbreaker to quickly move in the target area. Unlike these un-guided long range shots, these can hit maneuvering and accelerating targets. And it puts the enemy in a bind since if they ever stop maneuvering to adress the threat of the drones, they will end up exposing themselves to the suppression bombardement. Though in reality the speedbreaker drones and missiles are by far the superior and most practical option as they can actually self sustain themselves and also identify targets once in engagement instead of needing some relay drone to tell them where the target is.

@clothpillow7218 it's accessible from the Artemis beta program however since the lead coder form it has not been in a position to do much for years at this point, I would be recommending against pursuing application unless you are fine with a working but quirky script. That being said, I am working with cheerkin to make a similar thing based on APCK, and if things go well it would actually be superior to what can be done using Artemis turrets.

Well that is how this system works. IGC from orbital survey stations that see the ship, transmit to one of the defense stations which then bounces the signal to other stations. No designation system would give me 50km of range

You can defeat these. Despite their 50km range the absurd distance to cover means if you maneuver the shots won't hit you. At least not until you get closer. However Artemis is also a missile and drone control system. As you evade the shots, missiles are going to rise from their silos while stations in orbit will send combat drones at you. All of them can engage you at that range.

Likely not. While Artemis can likely work on console as scripts are run server side, weaponcore definitely runs a lot of things clientside so AWE (the mod used for the railguns) would not work
