I was a teenager in San Bernardino during the surfer craze of the '60s... what a wonderful time to grow up! We had dances every Friday night at the YMCA, and it was pure delight. No internet, no cellphones, just lots of friends having a great time. We loved going to Newport or Balboa Beach on weekends. 🏝🏝🏝

When life was so much simpler and more laid back and I used to listen 🎶 to 🎶 this music 🎶 🎵 growing up in the '60's and I'm still listening 🎶 to this tune on the 10th of January 2023 Great music 🎶 🎵 then and still great music 🎶 🎵 for the second decade of the 21st Century

I learned to play this song exactly like their drummer at 13/14 years of age. I practiced for many months and started playing it at street dances in the summer. One day my father, who was a drummer, had received a call from a Talent Scout about my drumming. My Dad couldn't figure out how I had learned to play this song. He was shocked when he heard me play it. My Dad had passed away in the early 80's so this is a nice memory for me. You all wrote a great song and not everyone could play it like you all did.

The Surfaris, Ventures, Fantastic Baggies and of course, the Beach Boys. They defined it. For a few short years, we were all surfers....in places like Kansas, Iowa.... Yet another blast from my youth, Joe!

Cannibal: As did MANY of us. I was lucky enough in 7th grade to be in a band that had a drummer that could play this song. It was a fun song to play, and if we didn't play it 4-5 times at house parties, it was a dull party.

I’m the drummer for our Praise & Worship band at church, and many moons ago, me and the guitar player were goofing around with this song at practice one day and decided to bang it out unannounced on a Sunday morning. I was worried about ruffling certain parishioner’s feathers; however, everyone - from 8 to 80 - loved it! Love you & your channel and thanks for posting this wonderful clip. - Clay -

@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum I did not know that James Burton was in Shindigs house band, but when I look back on Shindig, I realize it was a very professional, polished show focused on the best of the amazing music of the time. I knew even as a young teenager, that something revolutionary was happening in the music of my generation and I've been absorbed in it ever since. I learned to play guitar with surf music, or instrumental music of the late 50s and the 60s. My band played this of course. But because we had many rehearsals at my house, I'd wait after practice for my friends to leave. When I saw the car drive off I would get on the drums and the mystic of Wipe Out disappeared. I also taught the rhythm guitarist to play the lead as it was so boring. I just never cared for this song. But Joe, thank you for putting it up.

Living in SoCal and having a job that required formal dress I soon learned that ties were very warm. Soon I learned these shirts worked in this environment and developed a collection. I never expected to see ties being worn by surf culture icons. Must have been that this was a performance for induction to the Hall of Fame.

BOB BERYHILL? WHO??? WHY HAVEN’T YOU MENTIONED RON WILSON,WHO WROTE WIPE OUT AND CREATED AND PLAYED THE DRUMS ON THE ORIGINAL RECORD,AND DID THE LAUGH AT ALL THE CONCERT’S...I WAS THERE,AT THE CONCERTS WITHIN ABOUT 20 FEET OF THE BAND. RON WILSON DESERVES ALL THE CREDIT! IF NOT FOR RONNIE THERE WOULD BE NO SURFARIES NOT THE GUYS THAT HAVE BEEN RIPPING HIM OFF FOR DECADES.THE RECORD WAS RECORDED AT PAL RECORDING STUDIO IN CUCAMONGA CALIFORNIA,I WAS THERE TOO! RON WAS ALSO THE COUSIN OF BRIAN,CARL,AND DENNIS WILSON...YES OF THE BEACH BOYS! I KNOW BECAUSE RONNIE WAS A FRIEND OF MINE FROM 1965,ON,AND WHY IS THERE NO MENTION OF JIM PASH WHO WAS ALSO AN ORIGINAL MEMBER OF THE BAND? I KNEW JIM TOO.WHAT A SCAM,TAKING CREDIT FOR OTHER ARTISTS WORK! JUST THE USUAL MUSIC INDUSTRY BS. BETTER DO ALOT MORE RESEARCH JOE BEFORE TAKING PEOPLES WORD! EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE A STAR,BUT ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD! 👎👎👎👎👎

Hi Ron... Watch the interview I did with Bob. This was the footage of the induction concert only...I’m sure there are as many stories as there are family members and friends. I believe all members of the band who were original members when the record was recorded are listed as writers. If we have misstated anything we are very sorry but unless there is undeniable proof stating otherwise we will let sleeping dogs lay. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts... best... Joe

Bob's the last one, he's keeping the name and music alive. Did you watch his interview? Maybe you should. You need to thank Joe for doing all this, otherwise those CHILDREN (which is what they were at the time) would be lost to history. Nobody's ripping anybody off except maybe Mike Love ripping off Brian.. but that's a story for another time.
