This video covers the evolution of race starts from every WipEout game, starting from WipEout on PS1 from 1995, and finishing with WipEout Omega Collection on PS4 from 2017.
All games shown in this video were played on real hardware, not emulated.
Note: Since the PS Vita does not have a video output port, PS Vita footage had to be captured by using a camera to record the screen, while having an AUX cable plugged into the headphone port and into a PC, to ensure the audio quality was as good as possible. I apologise if the quality is poor, this is the best I can do with what I have.

Wipeout 3 is definitely a favorite. But I love Pure's method introduced in Fusion because it kept you on your toes in terms of reaction time. Reminds me of how F1 races start.

Wip3out will always be the goat. They need to hire an Asian woman to shout it out everytime anyone makes a wipeout game going forward.

The HD Fury one is so good. That whirring sound that gets louder as the countdown plays sounds like the ships powering up

Has anyone else noticed that for HD Fury and 2048, Studio Liverpool combined the countdown voice from 2097 and the "Go!" from the first game? It's both a beautiful little detail and a tribute to the past.

Yeah, I think it's a nice detail too. Although it was exclusive to WipEout Omega Collection on PS4

Wipeout 2097 is still the one for me. Probably because is the only one I played eventhough I saw the other games but they never had "it" for me. Also sound tracks are still INSANE 🔥🔥🔥

For me there's something very special about the art work and design of wipeout 2097/3/fusion. Really loved the lore of wipeout and always felt it'll make a good mini series on HBO similar to the right stuff but with anti gravity technology coming from a concept to anti gravity racing.

I remember the first time I heard the 3, 2, 1, Go of the third episode. I was so surprised ! It still the most memorable !

I've always loved seeing the ships emerge from the ground in Fusion, wish the other games kept that animation.

Not only that, but seeing how the pilots for each team prepare/psyches themselves up in different ways, before the countdown happens. Some wave, some tap their helmets/puts their racing glasses/visor on, etc. And then there's EG-r that does nothing, probably.

I’m not sure what I want more. 1. The entirety of WipEout in one place. (Including cut content and the exclusive songs from “WipEout: The Music” and its 2097 equivalent.) 2. A brand new WipEout game for the PS5 era. 3. A direct competitor to WipEout on the Xbox to scare Sony into greenlighting a brand new WipEout game for the PS5 era. (And also makes its intentions very clear.)

We need all of it. A series collection isn't unheard of, and Sony has done it in the past with the uncharted series sold as a single game. A PS5 wipeout has massive potential to draw in new players, especially if they make the first half of the game accessible enough that it doesn't overwhelm new players, but challenging enough to keep veterans hooked. Xbox is dead now so I doubt they'll try anything. they sold all their exclusives to Sony recently, and lost their identity as a whole in the process, so the last studio that could compete would be Nintendo if they made a new F-Zero, which would please that group too

Ahhhh! Always nice to see a video with history in the WipEout series! Nice one! 😄 Just a suggestion though, maybe don’t include the music in the background, just so we can hear the full countdowns in the games in all its glory hehe! Also!! Fun fact! WipEout Fusion had its own ‘3, 2, 1 & Go!’ in the challenge demo version of the game which is the Zone mode demo, you can hear it and it’s completely different to the full version of the game 😁

That is a good idea, maybe I should have made the music quieter or not included it at all. I'm glad you still enjoyed the video anyway 👍 Also yes, I forgot WipEout Fusion originally had a different sound clip for the race start in the demo.. I think they should have kept it as '3, 2, 1, Go' instead of changing it to 'Ready, Go' in the final version.

i think it's funny on ps1 release for wipEout xl they down pitched the announcer's voice yet in wipEout 64 the pitch is normal also like how they put him back in omega collection

It does, 2048 has a new mix of Tour de France by Kraftwerk (the 2003 version, not the original), and 2097 had Musique by Daft Punk even though Daft Punk's popularity wasn't as huge outside of Nightclubs yet.
