Wisconsin - Block 38 of 50! Celebrating the States Block of the Month - a 4+ year quilt project!

Our version of the Wisconsin block needs four fabrics: a light (white), a medium (royal blue), a dark (navy), and an accent (red). Watch the video to see how we made it!

We started this multi year (January 2022 through February 2026) Block of the Month to celebrate the Semi-quincentennial of the USA which will happen in 2026! One block a month for four+ years will make this quilt a manageable project for a once in a lifetime celebration for the United States! 250 years might seem young to our friends from all over the world but we're going to celebrate!
It's going to be a great scrappy block quilt! I am making my blocks in Red, White, and Blue but you can use any color combination you want. The color combinations that I've seen posted on our Facebook group, The Quilted Forest Friends, are AWESOME!! I am so looking forward to seeing your finished blocks. The block will measure 12 1/2" x 12 1/2" (12" x 12" finished in the quilt.)
For this month's block, you'll need three fabrics:
4 light squares, 4 1/2" x 4 1/2"
16 light squares, 1 1/2" x 1 1/2"
4 medium rectangles, 2 1/2" x 4 1/2"
4 medium squares, 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"
1 dark squares, 4 1/2" x 4 1/2"
1 dark rectangle, 2" x 11"
2 accent rectangles, 1 3/4" x 11"
8 accent squares, 1 1/2" x 1 1/2"

Wisconsin is one of my favorite places! I lived in Wisconsin for three years while I attended the University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse. I miss Wisconsin and the views of the Bluffs and the Mississippi every day, I wouldn't say no to moving back to Wisconsin at some point in the future! We do love to travel through the state to see friends and spend time at some of our favorite places from college. All of Wisconsin is beautiful, if you have never been there, you should definitely put it on your list of places to explore.
All of the "Celebrating the States" blocks will be rotary cut. These blocks will be presented in video form only and will come out the last week of the month on our KZbin channel. Share this with your quilting friends and make the blocks together!

This quilt will be 56 blocks set with 1" sashing, 7 blocks across and 8 blocks down. It will measure 92" x 105". If borders are wanted, a 3" border will make the quilt 98" x 111". If you add a 6" border, it will measure 104" x 117". If no border is wanted, just sew the blocks together for a quilt that will measure 84" x 96". I am starting this quilt now because it has been a goal of mine (since the Bi-centennial when I was a young girl) to make a quilt for this very special, once in a lifetime celebration! #celebratethestates #rotarycutter
If you don't want a quilt that is as large as listed, split the blocks for the 50 states into half and put 25 states on the front and 25 states on the back and make it a two-sided quilt. If you use a 1" sashing, 5 blocks across and 5 blocks down and add a 3" border , it would be about 72" x 72".

I keep thinking we don’t have enough states her 7 in total but 8 if you include the act where parliament is. Bu TV I would probably need just indigenous or animal fabric. NSW I think is the Waratah that could work but it would be very small lol.
