That is awesome! Thanks for coming by and telling me you got a pineapple. That is awesome! Mine is 3 or 4 years old. I hope it grows one net summer.

I just bought one and a sucker is growing already, mines still a baby, can you plant these in your yards or do you recommend big clay pots, I’m in FL! So I keep mine outside, they are so neat!

Don't see why not. Just keep it watered. Also doesn't like the cold. Optimum temperatures for pineapple growth range between 68°F and 86°F (20-30°C). Clay pots are OK but I have mine in the big plastic pots, they don't dry out as quick.

I AM WISCONSIN TOO! DO YOU MOVE THIS INTO A GREEN HOUSE IN THE WOINTER? OUR WINTERS ARE TERRIBLE.
@wisgardener3 жыл бұрын
Yes I do. I've grown several now and just this summer had another. You can keep them growing in a sunny window (patio door) over winter but I don't know how reliable that is for getting them to fruit. I live in Fox Crossing. (formerly Town of Menasha). 18 months is a long time to wait for a pineapple. You can see the greenhouse I have in the video; kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4KykKOfi5qJgrs . Part of it is kind of corny but if you jump to the 4 minute mark you can see what I have.

how did you get your pineapple to bloom, mine is about two years old still not bloomed :(
@wisgardener6 жыл бұрын
Nothing special, just waited it out. I think being able to over winter it in my green house helped a lot. I water it with the same nutrient solution that I use in my hydroponic systems. I adjust the PH to around 6.0 for all my plants. One of the comments on my "GROWING A PINEAPPLE FROM A PINEAPPLE TOP" kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4KykKOfi5qJgrs, Scott Mendez says: "If you pour water in the center of the plant, and add calcium carbide tablets in the center where you poured the water, the gas acetylene and calcium hydroxide is created which makes the plant grow a flower in about 7 weeks right after treatment so you don't have to wait as long for the plant to flower." I haven't tried that or checked it out further so I don't know if that really works. Since I've been able to get three ripe pineapples just growing them out, I'm a little leery to try it. Good luck. UPDATE: just loked it up and here is what I found; homeguides.sfgate.com/information-calcium-carbide-pineapple-plants-61911.html

What do you feed the plant? I'm growing one of my own here in NYC and it's doing really good.
@wisgardener7 жыл бұрын
I use the same stuff that I use in my hydroponic systems. It's 3 parts; Masterblend fertilizer, Calcium Nitrate and magnesium sulfate (Epsom salts). Use it about half the time and just plan water (rain if I got it) the other times. This blend is very low in salts so I don't get a build up of crust on the pot, like you might get using Miracle Grow. Other than that I think they also like to get a misting of just plain water over the leaves. God luck on your plant. Mark

Once the pineapple is fully ripe and once you cut it out, will the same pineapple plant continue to fruit the next pineapple? Or will the plant just die?
@wisgardener7 жыл бұрын
It doesn't die but it won't grow another fruit in the same spot. If you leave one or two of the suckers on the plant they will continue to grow and eventually produce a new fruit on them. After that the plant may still live but it won't be very productive. If I lived in a warmer climate and could grow them in the ground I might have let one of the suckers on the parent plant to grow and transplanted the other one to start a whole new plant.

Did you take your plant inside when the winter comes?
@wisgardener8 жыл бұрын
They will not survive outside in the winter here. The one in the video here was kept in the greenhouse over winter and then fruited in the summer. I did get 3 more plants to start, from the sucker, the slip and the top from this fruit. Those are in the green house now. I will bring them outside once the weather warms up. see: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4KykKOfi5qJgrs for this plant in January.
