My best friend Linda, disassociated from me immediately I lost my husband in 2020 .Our friendship for many years faded away because she taught I'm a threat to their relationship. May God help the widows!

That is so wrong on so many levels. I’m sorry for you. She was not a true friend.

I know I’m responding to an old comment but it’s unlikely she thought you were a threat - at least not to the degree of cutting you off - it’s more likely she just didn’t know what to say to you and was afraid of saying the wrong thing.

This is so spot on. I’ve been both surprised and disappointed by relationships and friendships that I valued much more than I should have. My morals haven’t all of a sudden gone out the window because I am now single. I value the friends who have supported me and “included” me and those that have shown me love and compassion throughout.

One very annoying comment by this lady was that all widows are mothers! Not true! And, yes, life as a childless, mature widow is much more lonely and challenging.

I get you .we had no children he passed 5 months ago. So I am on my own. But I was always doing things on my own. Because he was very I'll for along time. It's tuff at times but I'm learning every day how to adjust. But I must say I like my independence.

I'm a new widow and I can tell you right now the problem is you're the new single woman on the block and other wives or if you're a widower other husbands are worried that you're a threat to their relationship they're older their marriages have kind of settled and now they look at you like your footloose and fancy free. The 21 years I took care of my husband with his Alzheimer's I was the caretaker and I didn't go out much because we couldn't count on Teddy's behavior so I wasn't a threat to anybody. Now Teddy passed away in 2019 and we got hit with the cove it's so basically I've been in lockdown ever since but I'm a single woman amongst couples and I think that whether you're a widower or a widow you're married Friends start to see you as possible threat. Just my two cents

Well Moe even though you posted a year ago I don't think being single as a widow or otherwise as being a threat to other couples spouses. Now we all know that women's brains get warped around these ideas of competition and jealousy differently than men do. I have been a single for 30 years now raised my children since they were little by myself and never remarried. Single people do not get invited into social interaction like married couples do. As the old saying goes two is company three is a crowd.?? But when you interact with other people who are married and there's natural unbalance. Single does not function well with the natural social schemas of culture. In short I don't think it's personal because we are as singles a threat. I just don't think we bring as much to the table for both parties, church or at work. Of course we do bring as much the tables as other individuals but not as a unit .

You can NEVER enter widowhood with more confidence . It’s a nightmare. Also, widows need advice . I clicked on the video for help. Widowers do better . They start dating pretty quick .

I totally get it! All of your former friends more or less DISAPPEAR! It’s been six years for me since I lost my husband. I guess I no longer an a part of the group because they are “couples”. I guess I am a threat now. Just so unfair. But, this too shall pass.

It’s been seven years for me on 2/14/23. Yes, Valentine’s Day. And yes, your friendships do change.

It seems she only studied older widows. There is a whole group of widows 60 and younger with children that have a different take than what she is speaking about. I would like to find out almost two years later, if she has studied widowers and younger widows to get a better perspective.

No widow is in a better position because we live in a different time….i do understand that this view may be coming from someone who has not lost a spouse.

I’m REALLY disappointed that this conversation speaks of widows (women) only. So much - most - of these comments apply equally to men

I am a married man, I've had about 6 widow's tell me that they want sex, we are friends with them. Yes married women see them as a threat to their marriage.
