Having an aim would be nice. If at a personal level you can say I want 'healthy relationships', then you have a clear reason to be displeased about spending 5 hours a day on youtube. If technology is a tool towards a specific end, then you have a rationale to keep it minimal until it justifies serving a purpose. So when AI comes along that can write articles, generate art, debug code, it would be nice to have an answer to the question "what are we even doing?".
