I don't think faith itself is bad. (I am a christian.) But, nothing, NOTHING, is more dangerous than BLIND faith. When you just say "This makes me feel safe, so I will blindly follow it regardless of what it does." Thats what happened when Hitler took over germany. People thought the gains they got were getting were worth whatever bad things Hitler did. They blindly trusted him. Many pastors even joined the Nazis, claiming they had Goes blessing. Faith should never, ever, be blind.

Faith is in all cases used as a swap for thinking. Stop trying to build yourself another conformation bias. Though i must say i do disagree with him beating up Christians. That is pretty futile and similar to a Childs tantrum. But hay, this is Rick, he's killed a universe before. The way he sees it; if every universe in the infinite universe has every possible variation, then the multiverse treats all variations as equal. Ergo, nothing matters... or does it?

You know, I find it funny that as much as Rick says there's no god, he also spends a lot of time saying things like "Fuck you, god!" and trying to convince other people that god isn't real. Kind of like a lot of atheists who somehow end up spending a lot of time obsessing over something they keep also saying is meaningless. Rick is probably not quite as secure in his atheism as he'd like to think. More like, he really really *hopes* there is no god, since if he's wrong he's probably pretty fucked.
@anunspokenlegend17478 жыл бұрын
Jason Blalock: Well to be fair, atheists also say "oh my god" and "god damn" even if they don't believe. As for a god in Ricks universe, it probably does exist. More than likely however, it is no different than what Rick was to his car battery universe, and Rick probably knows that. He tries to convince people about the lack of a god because of what he knows, and just because a concept is meaningless, it doesn't mean that the belief in that concept is meaningless as well.
@wakaa51728 жыл бұрын
Not really, most atheists indulge themselves in this topic ,to either learn about it (As it is an interesting phiosophical theme) ,or just for shit and giggles/ entertainment. Also "atheists" don't claim that the topic is meaningles, pretty much the opposite. The "god" topic has great influence in our world. Also you saying "Rick is probably not quite as secure in his atheism as he'd like to think", because he says "fuck you god". Is like saying *enter random name here* is not as secure in macguyver not being real as he'd like to think, because he says "Fuck you MacGyver". Rick propably realises that our religions are absolute bollocks based on the god of the gaps falacy and control. God (As a concept) is metaphysical ,thus can't be proven nor disproven. Sooo if there is a god, they have nothing to do with our gods. Also It was for *COMEDIC PURPOSES*, no real meaning behind it. You are basicaly doing what the episode was making fun of.
@cortster128 жыл бұрын
Jason, I love how your entire post is built on numerous logical fallacies and self-projections. Hilariously fitting for this video, don't you think?
@wakaa51728 жыл бұрын
So... The reason I put that last bit in was to see how people react... You did not dissapoint me. So would you care to point out my fallacies and self-projections? *Never mind I am a cretin, I can't read it seems. It was adressed to Jason, not me.
@jasonblalock44298 жыл бұрын
Projection? I can assure you that I've never cheated death and then yelled "fuck you god." Just saying, Rick invokes god a whole lot, even in times when it seems like someone who's truly atheistic wouldn't even think to. Although on reflection, I kind of like AnUnspokenLegend's theory better anyway.

If I spent my life treating people like garbage in order to get ahead, my belief would be that treating people like garbage has a high chance of resulting in me getting ahead. That wouldn't be an unsubstantiated belief, and yet I wouldn't call that good behavior
@jjceno68138 жыл бұрын
Sure, but what ISN'T confirmation bias? I'm always getting limited information either way, every which way, on and about everything. If I (hypothetically, here) legitimately do only get good results by treating people badly (which isn't too much of a stretch considering that A- "good results" is subjective and B- in, for example, the business world or politics I'm fairly certain you could easily find an example), why wouldn't that count as substantial evidence? I'm not defending that sort of thinking, by the way, I just think "substantial evidence" is kind of an iffy thing. Kind of like most things.

(TL;DR: I suck) I apologize if my lack of education is showing, and I also apologize that I can't seem to get my point across better. I would try to reword what I'm trying to say, but (based on two replies vs 0 others) it seems I should probably just practice belittling others instead. ... ok lemme just try again anyway; My entire point here is that it always comes down to point of view, and that to say "Unsubstantiated belief is the cause of all bad human behavior" doesn't make sense to me. I could say "if I shoot myself in the face right now, I would probably die." Or I could say "if I shoot myself in the face right now, I will definitely die one thousand percent based on various studies concluding 99 out of 100 people did definitely die doing this." To me, personally, I have no problem if you want to believe the second one, but if I had to say one of them is incorrect, I wouldn't pick the first one. "Unsubstantiated belief is the cause of a lot of bad human behavior" would just make a lot more sense to me. (Even though to me, "bad" isn't as objective as it seems to be to so many (obviously objectively) smarter people.) I get what you're saying, even though I'm obviously not as intelligent or witty as you. But in the treating people badly example, we're talking about one person, and it was never about generalizing. I can guarantee you and would bet my life on it (even though my life is probably worth less than yours due to my lower intelligence, but it's still something) that there is at least one person on earth who has spent his entire life treating everybody like garbage, and believing doing so he would get ahead, and believing that based on his personal experiences. He would have been right, for him, right? Even if he is a heuristic, and a single anecdote, his belief would be founded on his own personal experience. So if instead of doing what he knows will work for him, he goes and studies what works for other people, it wouldn't make sense. I doubt you'll understand what I'm saying, as I know how much I suck at explaining, but I guess it just bums me out whenever I realize just how ridiculous everything is. I hope you're not still reading. I remember a teacher (must've been fourth grade) telling me about some person's life, some bizarrely specific stuff that happened about 500 years ago. And I remember thinking "But wait, you can't even tell me what is happening right now outside these walls."

Great video! However, I think there's a couple things you failed to note: - The turning something into a snake thing is a Biblical reference to Exodus when Moses turns his staff into a snake, which causes the Pharoah to take him more seriously, great evidence of how the episode ties religion and fallacy together - I think you should also talk about the creative process in the episode and how that part of the story compares to the religious story, there's something to be said about how they have such a hard time creating a new song but in the end (in both rounds) by just letting go and going with what we feels right they create a song that wins the competition Keep up the great videos!

Stalkering equating a being that is all knowing, all powerful, and infinitely greater than everything to a unicorn isn't a great logical argument and one that wouldn't be allowed in a philosophical debate. look up the modal ontological argument.

The Bandog you do understand that there basic guidelines to philosophical debates in professional settings right? you can't just throw any argument out there or analogy and expect people to accept it as a valid argument in a professional debate. sure you can compare two things all you like, but that would be a bad use of analogies in debates and would not be an acceptable argument and will gain you no points.

I think part of Rick HAS to believe in God in some way shape or form, but knowing as much as he does know, perhaps he feels less distant from God in terms of power and prestige and just as he treats everyone he really loves like dirt when things are same old same old, His relationship to God is just the same. The only tender moments are when he's gotten all the malarky out of his system and its time to really St. Michael down on some last minute forgiveness.

I am strong faithed but I also love Rick and Morty. I have such strong faith that I can enjoy a great show for its entertainment purpose without letting it's view on God influence or hinder my faith in any way.

This video literally shows your belief is stupid. You believe things you want to believe, as stated in this video.

+Nuke You watch Rick and Morty (a show which periodically points out the fallacies inherent in religion) and yet, you still believe you'll get to see your dead parents in heaven or whatever. Good for you I guess, I'm not impressed by your faith though, believing something despite having ZERO evidence makes you a moron
@sunnysideninkyo7 жыл бұрын
Colton Embury I used to strongly believe in God since both of my parents (my mom especially) was a Christian who raised me that way... but by me trying to look at things in a questioning way do I try to figure out if God might or might not be real... one evidence that he and/or other gods aren't real is that Greek God's are considered as Myth instead as a religion since it "was a religion" in Ancient Times, the other evidence is that there's a number of religion's out there that's difficult to find out or even trust which one is the true one... people believe in religion so strongly cause they realize the world isn't any perfect at all to begin with and they try to escape that fact by relaying on a God/God's that might help them in any problems... (Sorry for the long text lol) the point is that regardless of who's wrong or who's right both Atheists and Christians should respect each other even though both believe in different things... since I find it that Religion's will never fade away as long as people go through life... wanting a more better, peaceful one... also most religious people try to stay away from crimes and doing things like drinking or doing drugs too much, which is better for their health and social life. Feel free to like or dislike my argument, I'm just trying to be respectful for both sides of Atheists and Christians... P.s. don't call people morons just cause they believe in the religion they choose to believe and hold on dearly
@coltonembury717 жыл бұрын
Not a moron, ignorant fits better I suppose. I have nothing against whatever people want to think, I just happen to think differently.

it's interesting how this show tries to shit on religion and God when Rick has literally become God and created a whole universe 😂
@ZhoRZh376 жыл бұрын
Religion IS shit. It's active denial of new knowledge by preserving misguiding belief system. It forbids the seek for knowledge so it can perpetually practice those misguidings. And even if (in one point) humans manage to create new planet/world that won't prove existence of God. Knowledge brings understanding, but also notion how ignorant we are. The more you know the more you know how much you don't know. But, more importantly - the knowledge brings reasoning - and where's reason - there is no God or any other false idol.
@PennyDreadful15 жыл бұрын
Is Rick really the kind of god you'd want to pray too? Cosmic nihilism is still the underlying truth about that universe. And in all likelihood this universe too.
@jamessanguinet74045 жыл бұрын
@@ZhoRZh37 Perfectly stated. People are just afraid to accept that we have no discernible purpose and that our lives literally have no meaning objectively.

Religion can be a bad thing. Cults form from extremists ideals. And Just like this episode showed sometimes it's all just human rational over actual divinity. But that doesn't mean religion is completely irrational, or irrelevant. Many good things come out of it too. And just as religion can shape biased and how we view the world so can any set of ideals including atheism. Just bc you don't follow us "crazy bible thumpers" doesn't mean you have all the answers to the universe or that your way of thinking is with out fault
