You mentioned about not being afraid to use "darker" imagery like skulls in your decor. I updated mine by spray painting it gold. Taking something traditionally macabre and making it an unexpected color or style is an awesome way to dip a toe on the dark side.

My darkness is usually expressed in rich, vivid indigo with tiny hints of saffron and magenta. I'm sure that feels too something-other-than-dark, to some people. It certainly isn't Goth. But it moves me. Do what makes you feel alive or comforted or whatever feeling you are trying to evoke. Don't let others' decisions pigeonhole what your space has to look or feel like.

I think the 'goth kids from high school' are defensive because more often than not, they've been ostracized by the same things you're free to do and enjoy (without getting bullied) in your 20s. That being said, gatekeeping is dumb. But try to be more mindful before saying disparaging stuff about the goth kids from high school :) blessed be!

I have nothing against the goth kids in high school at all. I do, however, have something against people claiming ownership over a style, musical taste, mindset, etc. and excluding people from it just because they don’t fit into their specific parameters of what that culture is supposed to be. Hence the South Park goth kids mention. Also, keep in mind, you really don’t know who has been bullied and who hasn’t. You don’t know if I’ve been bullied. I also think it’s very disempowering to goth kids to assume that they’re all bullied. At the end of the day, we need to let people like what the want to like and not judge them for not fitting into our expectations of it. 😊✌️

Another idea is fake candles. They look surprisingly real, you can put them on higher shelves and not worry about anything burning and turn them all on with a flip of a switch/remote (can probably even connect to your phone. Mix in with real candles. (Also beeswax are the cleanest burning and non-toxic... yes, candles do tend to sadly NOT be nontoxic.) I think all white or natural candles looks just as good if not better than lots of colors.

Please take what I am about to write as a hopeful critisism and not an attack - I promise that is the intent. Your video was recommended to me by a well meaning coworker who thought I would enjoy.... here are a couple of thoughts, as a practicing witch your giggling and eye rolls while trying to use a way of life for some and actual religion for others as seasonal decor comes across as insulting and condescending. Not understanding things is one thing but mocking is another. Please do some actual research into why we burn specific candles, incense and herbs... place certain crystals and bring nature and certain bells, metals pieces and such. My feeling is you are drawn to this but a little embarrassed to take it seriously. Embrace a bit of Yoda - either do or do not - but don't make it a joke. If you are truly interested please check out the withches cookery videos, she explains things very well and beautifully. All that being said you have some beautiful pieces, your black and whites of nature are gorgeous and the strong female engry can only bring you good things! PS I too love fog...the glamour, the mystery...dare I say the magik of it all

Some food for thought: Does someone have to consider themselves a witch in a religious sense in order to feel a deep connection to the history and lore of witches and what they represent in terms of women's history/empowerment, individual expression, and freedom for the status quo? And to then decorate or dress in a way that reflects that connection? This whole video is a love letter to the history and symbolism of witches. There isn’t a defined way of embracing what witches represent. Are you bothered that my way isn’t the same as yours? I’m not embarrassed by the fact that I’m drawn to the subject of witches and express it through my decor. I’m very confident about it in fact, hence the creation of this video. I laugh and make jokes in all my videos (not just this one) because I have a sense of humor and don’t take myself seriously. I’ll leave you - and anyone reading this who may have felt insecure after reading your comment because their way of relating to the subject of witches doesn’t have to do with practicing magic - with this video by a witch I admire, which sums this up pretty succinctly: vm.tiktok.com/ZMRSJYw87/ Have a lovely day, and tell your coworker I say thank you for recommending the video!

@@ModaMisfit No, not at all! Witchcraft isn't even my religion. I don't feel insecure in this at all. Interesting video! Can I just say this one thing? I understand the association with witchcraft and feminism, but not all witches are female, and saying that you're creating a witchy vibe by displaying strong women only further highlights the stereotype. Nothing wrong with displaying strong women, but it shouldn't be categorized as a form of witch aesthetic decor.

I took up cross stitching to make gothic art for my walls lol my current project is a recreation of the woodcuts you see of witches and demons from the 14-1500s. It feels like a middle finger to the patriarchy somehow, especially through a traditionally "feminine" craft.

Hey there, obviously you're all entitled to your own opinion. I assume as a KZbinr, you're aware by now that the comment section is crazy. But that's what comes with it. So speaking as an actual witch. My craft is my life, it's who I am. I acknowledge religions and and other ways of life etc. But my life style works for me and that's that. But can you see how some real witches may feel about some of your comments? I would not have "religious aesthetics" just because I'm drawn to them...Out of respect for other people's way of life and beliefs. As a witch, yh. I liked alot of what you showed because...I'm actually a Witch. Although it did feel a tad cringe and awkward when you laughed or joked about "witchy" things that aren't a joke to us...I was drawn to your videos because of the subject, of course. But then after the 1st few laughs and comments, they kind of let you down and ruined the whole vibe for me. I'm drawn to Christmas (Yule holiday to me, as I'm not religious) but I'm not going to put up Jesus statues and pictures of Mary as "religious decor." Holding rosary beads but laugh that people "believe their power." I would feel I'm mocking the faith, beliefs etc. In today's society, we just have to have more kindness when it comes to ways of life, beliefs, cultures etc. I totally understand yes, you like the "aesthetics." But please try bare in mind you're showing this to the world and some people in the world won't like their lives/beliefs being used as "aesthetics." I can see scrolling down, I'm not the only one who thinks this. So we are out there. This "aesthetic" is real life and precious to alot of us. I'm all for having interests, appreciating other cultures etc but please try be more aware next time, towards these "aesthetics." There's a whole bunch of generic autumn/October aesthetics you can try that won't offend anyone as seasons don't belong to anyone. Sorry to rant. But witches get offended too. Blessed be 🌠

And to then decorate or dress in a way that reflects that connection? This whole video is a love letter to the history and symbolism of witches. There isn’t a defined way of embracing what witches represent. Are you bothered that my way isn’t the same as yours? I didn't make fun of anything in this video. I don't take myself seriously and approach each of my videos with a sense of humor. Nobody owns the subject matter of witches. There's an entire cultural, historical, fictional, entertainment, and folkloric element to the topic of witches, and I'm not here to be judged by people who think they have a be-all-end-all say in what counts as a valid way to relate to witchiness. That's basically the thesis statement of this video - to own your darkness, feel empowered by the idea of witches in whatever way works for you, and to not let the judgement of others - who feel their way is the only way - get you down. ✌️ I’ll leave you - and anyone reading this who may have felt shamed after reading your comment because their way of relating to the subject of witches doesn’t have to do with practicing magic - with this video by a witch I admire, which sums this up pretty succinctly: vm.tiktok.com/ZMRSJYw87/

Crystals are able to help your energy and can improve your day-to-day. I don’t think they should be only for decoration and should be used with their intentions. That’s like having an Buddha statue when you aren’t apart of the religion.

Lol crystals have existed on this earth for millennia - long before humans even existed. Do you really think that because a few little humans decided that they’re magical it means crystals belong ONLY to them and their religion? And that they then have a right to control how other people experience crystals, simply because they slapped their religious stamp on them? The small mindedness of this is just…. Yikes.

If you have old family pics, you can make an ancestor wall, or you can display old portraits you even print off the internet. Old ornate metal frames are best. You can also do pics/posters "pioneer" type women like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Amelia Erhardt.

Her: I don’t personally believe in crystals and I don’t mean real skulls cuz that’s kinda weird me who owns a bunch of crystals puts them out in the full moon and convinced a friend to give me her goats skull so I can connect with it’s spirit and decorate with it

Frosted glass and pewter perfume bottles are $16 on Amazon and I spray paint a skull with grey to coordinate with my teal/white/grey/black living room I'm 59 btw I am decorating in Goth because I am a rock and roller at heart from way back and this is the first time I've had my own space that I can do whatever I want with. So I'm cutting loose.! Most of my Goth stuff is do it yourself, I even made my own goth quilt. I have a very cool house now.

It's weird that you mentioned spooky landscape nature pictures. I have a acquaintance on death row who paints like Bob Ross, and he did a piece for me in black and white. Also I have a black and white print of a Hawaiian priestess raising her arms to pale, she's pictured on her knees in the grass with her crown and is very beautiful. I found it at a thrift store and never changed her out for something else. That was my intuition.
