This might be true but in terms of the witch trials it was the first time the aristocracy, the church and the monarchy really ganged together, after the widespread peasant uprisings after the Plague actually threatened them. The earliest witch trials were poor people who couldn't pay their way any more. The devil worship stuff got added onto the witch trials later. The witch trials in Europe were much more about bringing the peasants to heel, after the commons were also enclosed following the peasant wars. and after 3 centuries of it in Europe working out so well to accomplish this, the emerging capitalist class exported witch trials to divide and conquer communities on stolen lands as a weapon of colonialism.

It is a HUMAN endeavour, and because it is human it is invested with subjectivity and is prone to mistakes. The people who venerate it the way you do, instead of seeing it for what it is (an imperfect human activity), are indeed guilty of turning it into a dogma.
