Today I wanted to talk about the general differences between Witchcraft, Wicca and Paganism. In this, I do try to cover the different meanings of the terms, but there are likely some meanings that I do not know and/or have not included. This is simply my understanding of the three terms in as simplistic a form as I can describe them in, as always, doing your own research is key.

I think this was totally spot on. There is a ton of books and other modern sources that present Wicca as the end-all-be-all of witchcraft. It makes me really happy to see this being thoroughly defined for people.

And worse, those books have been teaching for a while that Wicca is the end-all-be-all of witchcraft to people and those people are teaching other people... And now you have Wiccans assuming we are all doing witchcraft wrong because we don't follow their path.

I was curious about that because I thought it was strange how hard Wiccans distance themselves from satanism. A Wiccan online was saying how they were tired of people thinking they were a satanist and I just pointed out that both religions have a horned deity, use spells and magic and use a lot of the same symbols. A bunch of Wiccans on there just said I was wrong and that I needed to do more research and telling me to shut up without any further explanation. I never said they were the same at all, I get that one is more about loving nature and the other is more about loving yourself but I really don’t get why they were so offended that I made the comparison. Ik I’m on some dear diary shit but that was just strange to me. I didn’t think I was being offensive or spreading misinformation at all and what was more frustrating was the lack of any actual explanation of why they thought I was wrong. I did do my own research and reached the same conclusion. They are religions that are similar in practice but very different ideologically.

So...go figure - I made this comment and then went and had a dream that night that I was speaking to the child me and she told me that Freyja wanted me to reach out to her. I had very little knowledge of any of the deities so I had to look her up the next day. And it made so much sense. So now I've done a 180 and am looking into how to work with her 😏

I'm a baby witch, and I wanted to learn witchcraft. Mind you I didn't know about Wicca and Paganism. But I only told my mom want I wanted to do and she handed me a book from Scott Cunningham titled " Wicca a guide for the solitary practitioner." And I started studying it yesterday but I started searching about witchcraft it's self a couple days ago. I now understand the differences. I'm still a baby witch but I feel like i'm falling into the eclectic witch path were I have no religion. :)

I love this video.. I'd love to see a video explaining the difference in satanism and that to b a witch doesn't make u a satanism...some shows like ghost hunters..a show I love except how they give misinfo on how when they see a pentagram and say it's satanist witches....it's would b so nice to inform those who don't know

yes! One of my biggest pet peeves ever is when someone acts like satanism is demonic or evil or involves some sort of blood ritual its crazy how so many people are so uneducated and make assumptions and assume its the truth

I once looked up Pagan to mean “Country Dweller”. I refer myself as just Pagan, as I don’t have a specific religion, and am more of an eclectic witch. I believe in all things; mystical creatures such as dragons, unicorns, ect. Even the Fae, and any god or goddess.

Yes I love this! I'm a norse pagan but I've recently started getting into witchcraft. I feel like some people think that means I'm straying from my religion but I definitely don't think of it that way. They had their seers which are basically witches just by a different name. I love that you've put the correct information out there!

thank you for your knowledge! I started Wicca but gradually adopted witchcraft. I remember when, in my late teens/early twenties I read the bible cover to cover. I was really searching. I finally studied Wicca but was drawn more into witchcraft. Remember "the guide for the solitary practitioner?" that was my first book. This is a nice breakdown, actually more concise than most I've found here on KZbin. Pagan, like heathen, comes from old words meaning rural folk ('country bumpkins'). Typically followers of non-Abrahamic (followers of the God of Abraham: Judaism, Christianity, Islam) religions. I've seen Christians who practice witchcraft, though it is not so common. It is a practice, not always connected with any particular religion, though it can be. Wicca was an effort to reclaim the traditional practices of the 'old religions' and attempt reclaim the word 'witch.'
