This concert was in the Netherlands. In Rotterdam. Watched the dvd at least 20 times. It was a one-time concert with orchestra and choir. After seeing this i went to a lot of concerts of WT. Go to see them next year in a collaboration concert with Evanescence. Thank you for this reaction.

Hurray, not blocked! I always melt when listening to this song from WT, yes Sharon's voice is so beautiful high and clear. And such a treat the song is with Anneke this time. I'm living in the Netherlands and hearing from you for first time Anneke is in Beste Zangers! Haha. I do not watch so much TV and for me was Floor was the skyhigh limit. But I will watch now. You know Sharon was in the Belgium version of Beste Zangers? The show is called "Liefde voor muziek" (the love for music). She did an amazing version of the Rose and you should listen to Just what I need tonight

He was born in Veenendaal and studied to become a teacher in Utrecht. He later studied theater in Antwerpen and now lives there half of the year. That doesn't make him half Belgian though....

Great to have you back Thomas, always love your reactions. Had to chuckle that the news that Anneke will be in the Beste Zangers show even reached Seattle. I felt these down my spine. They are from a 25-year reunion show of The Gathering called TG25, with all their current and previous singers. The Gathering are quite under-eh-known compared to many bands who followed their early pioneering tracks. Not exactly underrated though, as their album ratings on various prog and metal lists are quite high, giving the impression they're just as top notch as bands like Opeth, Epica, WT and Nightwish ... Ye. Odd aye?

If you want to see a very young Anneke, watch Strange Machines from The Gathering (Pinkpop 1996). Back in these days Anneke was the inspiration for Floor Jansen.

So you know Anneke from her work with Devin, and you know all these other popular symph/goth metal bands ... But I suspect you haven't checked out where all this started back in the 90s? A few bands initiated a new subgenre in metal and one of the most influential was The Gathering from the moment Anneke put her mark on their music. Devin and others like Tuomas were inspired by their landmark album 'Mandylion' (1995). A whole generation of metal lead singers got inspired by Anneke, and bands like WT, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil and Evanescence drew heavily from the soundscapes TG and some similar bands pioneered in. Time to explore their rich, varied and highly acclaimed discography I say. Albums like Mandylion and if_then_else are exceptional. So are concert dvds like 'A Sound Relief' and 'A Noise Severe'. Start by checking one of the epic TG25 performances to get a feel of the exquisiteness of their prog and metal blends, and of Anneke's exceptional vocal talents: 'Travel' or 'Waking Hour' or "On Most Surfaces'. Enjoy!

glad to see you again! anneke is not. in the studio version of this but regardless of this, this is one of my favourite ballads of all time, for any band. its beautiful. on a small sidenote: you should add "ascension - dream state armageddon" and "divide and conquer" by epica to your list of songs to react to. theyre absolute bangers and the latter especially has really good orchestration.

@@ThomFoolery1 I am a big fan and have seen them many times live here in the Netherlands. Even in the real early days when they would play in really small venues (tent-party’s) in local towns here, where the sound was crappy 😉 they are from the village next to the village I grew up in, I almost went to the same high school as Sharon (she’s just a few years older and I’m not sure to which one of the two schools in town she went to… I did occasionally see her in the shopping area. They moved away from the small village later on, as did I) so I kind of grew up with their music. Now I listen to nightwish more; hope to see them live soon! Haven’t been to any concert of them so I envy the people who were there ☺️ we all have bucket- and wish lists I guess! Thanks for the nice reaction I had missed your channel 👍
