Witness: Chad Daybell predicted deaths of 2 murder victims

On day 18 of the Chad Daybell triple murder trial, the prosecution questioned Zulema Pastenes, Lori Vallow's sister-in-law. The former follower of Chad Daybell says the self-proclaimed "Doomsday prophet" predicted deaths of two murder victims.
Chad's wife, Lori Vallow, was found guilty in May 2023 of six charges, including the murders of Joshua "JJ" Vallow and Tylee Ryan, both of whom were her children. On July 31, Vallow was sentenced to life in prison without parole by an Idaho judge.

I'm a middle school music teacher, so please don't judge my grammer :) I read your post and it really sparked me to write this. I'm sorry for the long post, but I felt compelled. I agree with you 100%! It's completely insane how people can just go along with these insane, crazy ideas. The only way I can see this happening is that Chad was part of their "ward" in the LDS Mormon church. He was a "big wig" (so to speak) because he wrote books on his so-called "visions" and he associated himself with others like Julie Rowe who supposedly had "death experiences". These people who were already followers of the LDS Church were believers in the hierarchy, aka Chad. They were knee-deep in this religion and thought Chad was giving them the truth because who could possibly imagine a hierarchy LDS member giving them false information or lying to them to gain power and money??! They followed along like sheep off a cliff. And I think Alex might have realized that after it was too late! You ask what is happening to our world? Our education has gone to crap, at least it has in the United States. We need to educate our girls and boys to think critically, how to problem solve, how to speak up and be leaders instead of followers. We need to teach our children that even when nobody is looking, they are doing the right thing. Whether it's simply picking up a piece of trash in a park or beach. Sometimes educators literally need to teach our children how to be good people, that is if it doesn't come naturally or that their parents don't bother to teach them. The bottom line is we're all in this together, parents, grandparents, families, counselors, educators, psychologists, etc. We want a better world? We need to work together to make that happen. And as the old saying goes, it starts at home!

As I listened to this I was struck at how similar Chad’s glorification of himself mirrored Joseph Smith’s glorification of himself. First Smith claimed to be a Seer. He could see things via a peep stone in a hat. Then he was a prophet and produced teachings. If anyone opposed his teachings -say his wife who opposed polygamy - he would conveniently produce a revelation from God threatening her with damnation. Before he died, he became the General in charge of the Nauvoo legion, which had state recognition as a bonafide military unit. He was also a candidate for President of the United States. And, like Chad claimed to be the Holy Ghost incarnate. In fact, the Mormon church still teaches that no soul can enter heaven without his approval. So literally he had himself replacing Jesus as the judge of mankind. Early Mormonism had the very same organizational structure as what Chad was replicating. Smith had the Danites who killed people Smith determined needed killing through the doctrine of blood atonement. I was born into the faith, and at one time would have been susceptible to this nonsense the Daybell’s pulled. Thankfully I came to the realization I was gay. And you can’t be healthy and remain a Mormon. It still took over ten years of emotional hell to wean myself out of it. And another ten before I could look at the real church history and early teachings to see just how crazy it all is. I am in my 60s and have been out of the church since the age of 35. I will never forget walking the five blocks to the PO one night in Salt Lake City to mail my resignation letter. And I worried the whole way if I was doing the right thing. I knew I would lose friends and family and thought of my family heritage and all that. But I dropped the letter into the drop box and heard it hit the bottom I felt lighter and more peaceful than I ever had. With each step home I knew I’d done the right thing. And I have never once regretted it. I hope Zulema and the two Melanies and Ian and Brandon can break free of the cult, as well as the larger church.
