1:04:45 when my late friend TF Knight who was an advanced collector got German army general Waldemar Erfurth's tunic, it was inside a garbage bag. Still had the medal bars and German Cross in Silver. The tunic was tailor made in Finland. I believe my friend traded either a Babe Ruth baseball or Dizzy Dean baseball contract for the tunic.

Hi Tom, Thanks yet again for allowing us to get MAXimum enjoyment from your show acquisitions. And how nice that they dedicated it to Tom. I really enjoyed the miniature RAD hewer and also the wood carvings; both the accordion player and the Imperial eagle. The Korps must have thought quite a lot of their top-kick to commission (or at least present) a carving of that size and quality for him. Although I HAVE heard that the difference between an onion and an accordion is that nobody cries when you cut the accordion in half.. 😁 (no offense to the accordion fans out there). And the eagle.. THAT'S an attention getter! 👍😎

Terrific videos Tom!! You and your son are a great team!! Tom, as I viewed the very large uniform from the plastic bags, I immediately thought about a very tall German ‘official’ depicted in numerous photos at apparent receptions in the Chancellery with Hitler present. It would be fantastic to link this to that individual after research, etc. Cheers Tom!

Always bothers me, when you handle items with fabric, and that cigar is in your hand. I keep waiting for a spark of tobacco to singe the material. Question: Can a cleaner such as Tarnex be used on those silver items, or is it better to leave the patina on them? Question: I know Solingen Steel is a quality steel, but are all blades made with Solingen Steel?
@WittmannAntiqueMilitaria3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the cigar can be a bit harrowing. He's not going to stop puffing away, though, so I just pretend I don't see it. I would avoid Tarnex in particular and harsh chemical cleaners in general. They are fine for modern surface silver that is not worn, but that is almost never the case with antique pieces. Even immersion in the often recommended baking soda / salt solution can cause pitting in a compromised surface, and often what looks perfect often has wear and damage not visible to the eye. You have to really evaluate the condition of each piece before you think about cleaning it, and often it is best simply to leave it as-is. As for the steel, I'll have to ask and get back to you.
