I love it when Timmy expounds on some cherished childhood anecdote, and is partly laughing to himself as he builds to the big conclusion of his story, expecting the others to jump in with mirth and enthusiasm of their own. And then the rest of the guys just sit there completely blank-faced and unimpressed with whatever he's talking about. We all love Timmy. Timmy's the best.

I can relate to Timmy. 8th grade we had a teacher we got fired and drove to tears after she showed blatant favouritism throughout the year and another teacher started asking questions.

4th grade for me, this teacher clearly hated kids and boys in particular. This teacher would give ALL the boys in class (plus the one tomboyish girl) after school detention when any one of the boys got in trouble. This happened frequently enough that the principal told her she wasn't allowed to give out detentions without her approval. Also, 9/11 happened when I was in her class and she actually said to the kids that morning "I think we should all be prepared to die today." Yeah, she had issues.

As a teacher this is one of my all time favorites. I say "that'll really piss off the kids hehehe" all of the time. Also the Walk of Shame is maybe my favorite "oh cuz you thought all of these kids would be like 'my teacher's a hero to me and shit' haha" lol. Private school until jr high, then public until graduation. Batty old shut-ins is highly accurate in my experience. But, I'm old and I think that was a qualification alongside cranky and deaf.

I *almost* got a teacher fired for bullying me in 4th grade. When I was little my family was Jehovah Witness and raised me as one (got outta that shit soon as I was old enough to) and my teacher HATED Jehovah Witnesses. She never said it outright, she'd just make mean comments and point me out to the rest of the class whenever I couldn't do some dumb holiday project. Also every recess I'd come back if I'd brought a lunch the good snack would be gone but the sandwich and whatever else were all squashed and destroyed or shoved way up into my saxaphone which I was learning at the time. Thing is...the door was locked all recess, the teacher was the only one with access to the classroom so it had to be her. So I started bringing like the $1.25 to pay for school lunch, but she had a policy of collecting it herself for the whole classroom and putting in the order for us instead of us paying directly. Well my lunches just kept going missing and then she'd put me in front of the class screaming at me for being such a liar and a scam artist. This went on for months with many meetings with the principal. Then the teacher finally went too far and yanked me out of my desk one day and dragged me outside to scream at me for getting her in trouble with the principal, digging her nails into my arm the whole time. So now the principal started interviewing fellow students, many who stuck up for me proving the teacher was a complete liar. So she was forced to buy me several lunches and wasn't allowed to talk to me anymore or fail my papers (she'd been giving me bad grades too). Then about a month after that she slipped on a piece of paper and broke her arms haha. Karma yah bitch.

When i was in school it was a-d for grades meaning you passed and got the credits or you failed and it just said fail not even f then you'd have to repeat the class.

Some older schools also had all 6 grades but spaced differently so E was unsatisfactory but F was a failure. There are also definitely schools that ended at E. Some of them moved to it to distance from the "failure" aspect, but then they thought the students might mistake E for "Excellent" so they figured it would be better for students to know where they're at regardless of self-esteem. I also had the elementary Excellent, Satisfactory, Unsatisfactory - but at that point, I think it was more behavioral than educational.

I was raised around Aurora IL and I'm 31 and I also had E/S/S- in Kindergarten. My 6th grade teacher was one of those teachers though where she was originally a third grade teacher and got transferred to sixth grade, and she just hated kids that old so she was a complete piece of work.

Passing Grades A: 85%-100% B: 70%-84% C: 55%-69% D: 40%-54% ----- Failing Grades E: 25%-40% F: 10%-24% NG: 0-9% 5% in each 15% bracked determines wether it's a Number-, Number or Number+. The exception is A where there's no -grade, just A (85%-89%) and A+ (90-100%). This was the system in my school and it makes complete sense. Also NG stands for No Grade.

Jesus. In all my schools, anything below 60-65% was an F. Talk about high standards. Must be why I failed so much, and eventually said "fuck it" and dropped out. Got my GED years later, but I wish I'd just done it when I was 16. Would have saved a lot of time and trouble.

So I went to Catholic School in third grade we had a weird system. I which meant Immaculate, S as in Satisfactory, NI needs improvement and T as in Terrible, but went I went to fourth grade and beyond including college, I had nothing but number grades. However in the catholic school system if you get anything below a 70 which is basically a C it was considered a failing grade.

In our system "E" was like "exception" Like, you didn't really finish the class, you missed a bunch of classes but you had a good reason for it, so you get no credit for the class, but you also don't get it counted against your GPA.

I see we're telling stories about messed up things our teachers did. Here's mine: In the 6th grade, our counselor met with the boys and girls in seperate sessions. The girls told us that pur counselor was telling them things that happened in our counseling session which kicked off multiple days of her using those sessions to intimidate us into not revealing she broke confidentiality to the rest of the faculty.

Guessing the idea of the E there was that you would have failed if there was a fail state. E is just skipped because anything below sub-average is an automatic fail state.

My elementary school switched to some E P S type BS grading system. Even as a 5th grader i saw this was adults trying to make the kids who got Ds and Fs feel better. And theyd be too dumb to figure out that a P or N or whatever meant F.
