I was about eight or nine years old when Carter came to Chicago. I remember that very well, and it's fun to see the WLS report of it! Thank you!

My parents bought a 25" Magnavox for the downstairs. It was pretty awesome! I was 12 in 1980, living in NY. Ronald Reagan would become President in November and the Iranian Hostage Crisis would be over!

I suppose on this night you would have seen WABC Channel 7's "Eyewitness News" as put up in seven parts by 'HulkieD' elsewhere on this site? (And which had three stories shared with this clip: Gary Wells' motorcycle accident; Abbie Hoffman's trial; and George Wallace signing to have a TV movie made of his life.)

Diane Allen came to Philadelphia in 82-84? I'm not sure exactly when but she got a job at KYW Channel 3 and then switched to WCAU Cahnnel 10 in 1989. She worked for WCAU until 94-95 when she resigned to run for the New Jersey State Assembly. She won and is still serving in that capacity to this day. She looks like a teenager in this clip because I watched her age into an attractive mature woman for years on TV. Interestingly in the early part of this video is Jack Jones who was the anchor for KYW when I was a kid. I believe he was in Philly before the date of this clip.

That area in the south loop looked really dilapidated and sketchy there in 11:31. I have to look and see how that area looks today 43 years later on google.

In the NYC newscast on WABC the same day, the lead-off story was a protest against Mayor Koch's plan to close Sydenham Hospital in Harlem - and Milton "Now Listen To This!" Lewis was reporting on it.

The National stuff was used by network affiliates all over. I'd say they were as good as WABC-TV in NYC.

@@jaminova_1969 - WABC in 1980 was still at the top o' the ratings heap, amidst competition not only from WCBS but also WNBC which was about to unleash its "News 4 New York" not long after. By contrast, this was WLS a year after WBBM (and the anchor team of Kurtis/Jacobson) leapfrogged past them in the ratings race, and what with the overhauls at WMAQ . . .
