Shelly learned how to become street smart because she was exposed to the real world. Selena was never exposed to the real world, like she mentions being "cocooned" which unfortunately led to her being gullible and thinking anyone can be trusted. Even when there were multiple red flags, people warning her about Yolanda, she simply couldn't accept it because she's never been exposed to that. I appreciate this interview because it cleared up a lot of things. I also highly appreciate how Shelly said she doesn't talk so much about Selena because she doesn't want to capitalize on it. That is a true friend and in general that speaks greatly of her character. Thank you for sharing your story Shelly!

There are so many awesome qualities about Selena besides her music , dancing , fashion and boutique but she had great personality traits. I can see how these two became friends and this is something I admire about them both is most girls/ young women coming up when they were and they never considered each other competitors. Shelly thank you for sharing. The one memory that u shared truly touched my soul. When u said during one of ur spring breaks spent at Selenas you were sick with tonsillitis and Selena took u to the doctor and picked up ur meds and while u were resting Selena was coming up with a tray the had ur meds, soup, crackers & truly it touched my heart. Because even though we didn't know Selena on a personal level, we found out Selena tried to do the same with her murderer who's name I refuse to say, and look at what that animal did to her. That truly broke my heart. Selena took her to the hospital, caring for her. Bringing her back to the hotel after finding out she had lied to Selena and walking her back to the hotel. I just wish we could turn back time. If Selena could have called that lady a taxi from the hospital back to the hotel & called her dad and told him she has lied and she needs him to come and speak with that murderer, things would be so different right now and we would still have Selena. Thank you sweetie for sharing. Through ur words we can see Selena on a personal level. Aduos y besitos 💓

@@roxiegalaviz5545 I totally agree with you. People usually don't like to hear about themselves being jealous because it is a human flaw that we all possess, and when Chris mentioned it I think it hurt her because it is true. I myself would have been highly jealous of Selena because Shelly was a big hit, and even won Tejano entertainer of the year for like 6 years in a row, then Selena shows up and Shelly's career was never the same. So anyone would be upset as it is human and I still respect Shelly to this day. I am Jenn Whetstone the person who posted the first comment, this is my other account. :)

I agree, and the way she handled the doctor rumor was kind of suspect too, even if she didn't mean it. She made it sound like she was coving something up. Especially by saying "we were still kids, only 23 and still discovering and experimenting with things even after we were married'. I don't think Selena cheated on Chris, but her friend sure doesn't help dispel any of those rumors! lol

YOU might be the type to feel jealous but she wasn’t. There’s people out there who don’t feel jealousy.

Something is off with the Quintanilla family. They seem to have problems with literally anyone who had a relationship with Selena. Like too many people. I understand that was family but they’re a bit over bearing. Selena grew a huge fan base and deserve a lot more than what we got. A movie and concert in dvd isn’t enough. They want to take our money but not give us anything in return. Like she’s gone so just let us celebrate her legacy, it’s beyond annoying. Her father should’ve never put her out in the world if they didn’t want to share her

@@alexiscarrillo781 ignore this weirdo, always under every Selena video shouting some mentally deranged/unhinged stuff, also anti-black and racist. This either someone who needs to get some serious help, or it’s just a bad attempt at trolling.

I wasn't a huge Selena fan when I met her in the 90's. I was working as a busgirl at a boogie restaurant in San Antonio. She came in wearing this yellow pantsuit, hair pulled back in a low bun. Her presence was invigorating. My boyfriend mentioned having a crush on her so I asked for an autograph. She was so sweet and personable. Shelly is right, you could just feel her vibe. RIP Selena Q. Perez- a stolen soul forever.

Selena was cocooned for most of her life. That's probably why she was SO innocent and fell to the lies of Yolanda.
