Ideally you would also have a gamecube controller and adapter, but with dolphin you can also use a keyboard or other controllers. Once you have those things, download slippi.gg and the rest is pretty simple

The difference between this and something, like, PM/P+ (where they DO rework nonviable Melee characters into viable ones) is that you run the risk of alienating existing players of those characters. They're likely taking the Smash Remix route and adding in new characters while leaving the existing ones untouched to preserve that aspect of the game. The issue there, though, is that you're just indirectly nerfing all the not-top tiers even harder by giving them even worse matchups by adding in more top tiers. Smash Remix doesn't really have this problem too much since the worst characters in 64 are still by all accounts not too bad compared to the rest of the cast save maybe the top two. It's a much bigger issue in Melee, though.

I don't think we should change the existing cast toooooo much but some QOL changes would be nice. I really like melee g&w but I think the changes he should get is just normalizing his kit and maybe some small changes that look like oversights (letting him L cancel everything, normalizing his shield size, fixing his up smash hurtbox) as opposed to giving him new tools (like letting him act out of up b or letting him land cancel his neutral special) If the changes are like that I don't think even the most hardcore melee fans would mind all too much. Other examples along this vein is maybe giving bowser a more normalized jumpsquat or fixing roy's dash attack.

Like sure dacus is brawl specific but only Falco has Falcos dacus length and it expands his neutral in a lot of ways. He has b reverse on his lasers rar Bair a pretty significantly buffed recovery and his ledge game is super buffed too due to tourney winner ledge dash. His jab is technically buffed as well but not by much. The dair nerf is just a hitbox very late in the top and doesn't offset all the other buffs

PM was actually how I got into Melee. I started playing PM back in 2013, and that's how I learned stuff like wavedashing, jump cancelling, moonwalking, etc. I didn't pick up Melee until 2015, and it's the reason I mained Mario for the longest time. He feels so good in PM but just kinda doesn't feel the same in Melee. I love both games to this day, and I would be psyched to see custom stuff in Melee like there has been in PM and recently P+.

Melee deserves to be owned by the community. I'm just a bystander, but seeing the incredible work done by the Melee community despite all their limitations, I hope at some point you guys can fully cut ties with Nintendo. Either Nintendo will give up their claim of ownership over Melee (only asking that the game be reskinned without their mascots) or someone's going to perfectly remake Melee with not-Fox and not-Marth under an open source license with just enough superficial changes to be left alone by Nintendo. The latter is far more likely to happen, and imo will happen because I don't think NIntendo's just going to leave the community alone while Mario and Pikachu are on screen. When it does, I think it will mark a new era of e-sports where games can be as free and open as a soccer ball and a bowling ball with copyrights and trademarks covering only team and league names and iconography. E-sports need to be as freely replicable and distributable as traditional sports. You don't need a Fifa ball to play soccer or an MLB bat to play baseball, and you shouldn't need some Nintendo plastic to play Melee. #FreeMelee

Project plus comes with a built-in HD texture pack and makes the game look amazing it built-in has the ability to handle widescreen rather than 4 by 3 making it better for more modern displays and it already has custom stages and new characters and all of the stuff that you want now. Yes it's not technically melee but it's also got a new tech in it that is not in melee that allows you to continue to explore and grow and learn

I imagine they reverse engineered it and found an exploit way to add more stuff?

1 more and the character select screen will be full with 28 fighters. 9 on each row. They'll have to add another row for more characters eventually.
